Hello, a bit of an argument between myself and Ibrahima Sonko started in another thread on whether the Tories belong to the right wing of the political spectrum in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. We decided to first present our cases to you, and then you guys are welcome to settle it for us by telling us what you think about it, after having carefully considered our compelling arguments. Ibrahima doesn't know this yet, but the loser shall be a gentleman and leave the Chit Chat and Politics subforums forever, but please do not let this influence your vote. Please do not vote according to who you'd rather get rid of (...as I'd lose that one...)

I shall start, then Ibrahima will hopefully follow to make his case.

My case: The Tories are a right-wing party. I hereby present not just one, but two (!) pieces of evidence.

1) We all know Ibrahima Sonko is disgusted by everything remotely left wing and their lies. He has however been firmly on #TeamBoris and #TeamTories regarding SARS-CoV-2, fighting their corner. Therefore, the only logical conclusion would be that the Tories are right-wing. Ibrahima would never defend anyone remotely left-wing or even centre.

2) Allow me to quote the highly respected Breitbart news website

The Conservative Party machine fears coming in sixth place in European Parliament elections on May 23rd, while a study reveals that Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party is eating into the Tory vote.

A Conservative Campaign Headquarters (CCHQ) source has told the left-liberal Guardian that internal party data suggests the Tories will perform even worse than predicted.

The latest YouGov poll puts the Tories in third place at 13 per cent, behind Labour (21 per cent) and the Brexit Party in the lead at 30 per cent.

However, internal predictions put the establishment right-wing party behind the Brexit Party, the left-wing Labour Party, the pro-Remain Liberal Democrats and Change UK and even the Green party, with support expected to fall into the single digits.

Your turn, Ibrahima! Happy

Conservatives nearly all voted for Tuition fees, but more than 50% voted to Remain in the EU so I suppose they are right wing on some things and left wing on others.

Normally yes but they won last December's general election on Jeremy Corbyn's platform from the 2017 general election, and in any case Covid-19 has forced even more massive state intervention in the economy. It is hard to imagine Labour would be doing anything very different, though Labour might be doing it more (or less) competently.

So at the moment, we have a right wing party doing left wing things.

Funny you would say that. I did dream of your soft, but masculine, hands rubbing oil, lavender scented, all over my naked body before you gently went on to spoil me further by massaging my penis with your very skilled tongue and mouth.

Yes tories are right wing.

The whack jobs have them to the right of the fascists who stirred up ww2.

I'd have them to the left of them, and about as right wing as henry8

Was Henry VIII as bad as Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin?
Thursday, 12th February, 2015

John Simkin
In his book, Henry VIII (1984), the historian, Jasper Ridley, compared the crimes of Henry VIII with Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin. Ridley's main criticism of Henry concerns his treatment of the poor. During his reign he told Parliament to pass several acts against vagabonds (people wandering around the country looking for work). A law passed in 1530 stated that people who were too old or ill to work could apply to a local JP for a licence to beg; but any vagabond who begged without a licence was to be severely punished. If any able-bodied man or woman, who did not own land or carry on a recognised profession or was a trader in merchandise, was found outside his native parish and could not account for his presence there, the local JP was to send him to the nearest market town, where he was to be tied naked to the end of a cart and beaten with a whip.

Unemployment was a serious problem during this period. When large landowners changed from arable to sheep farming, unemployment increased rapidly. The closing down of the monasteries in the 1530s created even more unemployment. As the monasteries had also helped provide food for the poor, this added to the problem. More and more people left their villages to look for work. Eustace Chapuys reported that legions of monks, nuns and the servants employed in the suppressed religious houses, were roaming the countryside, homeless and penniless, begging for relief. He had been told that there were as many as 20,000 of them seeking help.

In 1536 Parliament passed a new act to deal with vagabonds. For a second offence a vagabond was not only whipped but also had to have a part of his ear cut off. For the third offence, he was to be hanged. People found guilty of murder, rape, sodomy, arson, robbery, theft, forgery and coining were also hanged. People found guilty of treason were hanged, castrated, disembowelled, beheaded and quartered. The punishment for poisoners was to be boiled alive. According to the historian, Raphael Holinshed, who wrote twenty-five years after Henry's death, 72,000 thieves and vagabonds were hanged during his reign.

wtf has Henry 8th got to do with the Tory party being right wing or notLaugh
He's much maligned but he was a very intelligent King & got rid of all those parasitical monks & Catholicism.
People also forget he was a fine athlete but never recovered from a fall off a horse
The Reformation and the forming of C of E was a great achievement
To think most of his bitterness came from the fact Catherine couldn't give him a son.
Things would have been completely different if she had
The story of the legitimacy of that marriage and how it ended is a proper farce!

Feel free to specifically point out my lies and shame me. Sadly you can't because my portrayal of events is accurate.

You are the one who threw constant homophobic hissy fits and abuse at me in unrelated threads because I had stated in a perfectly innocent and heterosexual way: "What a gorgeous stallion that interviewer is. Facial structure of a Greek God."

After a few days of continued attacks for that one remark in multiple threads I eventually played along and gave you what you asked for and now you're throwing hissy fits again.

The tories aren't right wing all that's changed is the perception as everyone is so PC and left wing the line has been changed in the eyes of the vast majority.
Neo Nazis are right wing we regular folk aren't allowed to be.

When people post disgusting sexually orientated inappropriate content on a public forum it deserves to be highlighted and you aaron validated such a post and added to it on this thread with talk of naked mud wrestling between 2 forumites.
See you've got a sense of humour after all
