I'm an heating engineer and started with a new firm just over a year ago. The company employees about 150 people and has been established 35 years.
When I found out that the company owner/Managing Director was the grandson of the company founder and was only 35 years old I was a little concerned. He has been MD for 3 years. This company traditionally had long-serving members of staff but over the last 3 years they have all moved on for one reason or another which produced the opportunity for myself to work here. All the current managers and supervisors all appear to be in their thirties, not experienced in their current position, very friendly with the MD and they are ruthless with their handing of engineers. All they seemed bothered about is how the company is portrayed via social media. Talk about an ego.
I'm 48 and will be resigning on Monday morning as I am just not comfortable with a situation like this. I guess it happens to us all at some stage but being managed by younger people is not a pleasant experience imo. Plain

Sadly PR in the media/internet consumes companies, all about likes and point scoring but not about employees or the product.

You will move somewhere else and it will be the same.

Same with my company, company built itself up by promoting internally, now its all people from totally unrelated industries with fancy CVs but no practical skills or knowledge, give them a screwdriver and they would stab themselves.

A management team who dont have a clue what or how to build our product, its all srreadhseets with conditional formatting and charts, if you describe an actual issue their eyes glaze over.

20 hours divided by 10 men is a 2 hr job.

I don't think it is about age. A*seholes in all walks of management and authority. Skilled in the art of climbing the greasy pole but not in the art of managing people.

Spreadsheets Cry

The company i work for its all about the spreadsheets even when we have actual programs designed to record and provide data, if it aint on the spreadsheet it means nothing.Cry

We even maintain equipment that has been maintained recently because it is on the spreadsheet to maintain. Stuff gets maintained yearly that should be maintained 8 yearly because the spreadsheet says so and budget says so.

I don't think it's because they are young. it's just the fashion
to manage in that manner. Heartless and soulless and reward is best
workers find better places to work where they are appreciated.

Good luck whp, a wise move imo

It is nice to have the freedom to say what you like to who you like and putting down rude or stupid people no matter what position of authority they are in.

Might I suggest to some of you young uns it might be a good time to start paying extra off your mortgageWink It gives you power!

Before you hand in your notice make a list of all the properties you've done work at and get some business cards printed.
