Despite a 4.3 higher chance death rate they seem to be,should they morally be pulled off the frontline and furloughed until this is over?

Apart from those in the NHS and on the front line are the rest working legally or against the guidelines of the lockdown? Those pictured in the Tube are they BAME or mainly Eastern Europeans working in the black economy esp during lockdown? I firmly believe if there has been a stringent administration of who's essential eg the issuance of an id badge the Tube would be significantly less sardine-like.

Did anyone watch the expose' on BBC News about those scumbag hairdressers/barbers charging double eg £50 for an illegal haircut in their kitchen? And, they all sound foreign.

they've had a lucky escape if the blue rinse tory,s had known this 2 months ago, they,d have deffo went down herd immunity route, Wink

Woundedknee,it is a scientific fact that the death rate is 4.3 times higher, surely where there is risk like NHS,transport etc they should be removed from their posts until it improves?

Hello Impossible, glad ya well, keep don't listening to the polithickos.
Report woundedknee May 7, 2020 4:14 PM BST
they came here to work
Report lapsy pa May 7, 2020 4:20 PM BST
No,most are British born and bred though some are immigrants, they didn't as you say come to die.

Isn't it morally irresponsible to have them frontline considering the risk is so much higher?
Report Dotchinite May 7, 2020 4:22 PM BST
That 4.3 is a headline figure and the adjusted figure that is more sensible was at its highest 1.9. For most minorities it was less than that.
Report Dotchinite May 7, 2020 4:24 PM BST
Also bear in mind its not as dramatic as it sounds in most cases. If you take a 25 year old white person their risk is miniscule so if the black person has double the risk its still pretty much nothing.

Its only really relevant for people above 55 and most of those will be retired ie 65+.
Report lapsy pa May 7, 2020 4:27 PM BST
Ok Dotchinite, fair point, so should all Bame frontline keyworkers 55+ be immediately furloughed and replaced by a lesser risk category of person?
Report impossible123 May 7, 2020 4:32 PM BST
I'm not convinced about the higher risk of Covid-19 to BAME, but glad to be proven wrong or educated. I believe their lifestyle and tradition might have a say in the higher mortality rate.

'lapsy pa', you ggod too I hope. Listening to the government? I only listen to people who are savvy and been thro' the university of life. The government? No chance. Did you watch the "cordial" dialogue (PMQs) shown by Bojo to Starmer and vice versa at the Despatch Box? No more shouting and baying from the mob from the Labour Party.

I hope the media keep this digital PMQ - I do not want to see the riff-raff so prevalent under the previous Labour leadership. I'd also like to see only a select few of MPs with intelligence and decorum are allowed to ask pertinent questions; those Labour MPs there solely on political correctness and not ability eg the nodding dog and mum with druggie son, off the media for good.
Report Dotchinite May 7, 2020 4:33 PM BST
I have no idea lapsy. I can see the logic but it would be very hard to justify unless they had extra underlying issues. You have to bear in mind these figures could still be revised and adjusted.
Report lapsy pa May 7, 2020 4:37 PM BST
I did see it Impossible, i thought Starmer was very measured,he drew Boris in with small talk and ultimately wound it up to get him to say he would do 200,000 tests.

I agree with the baying, that will be more suited to Starmer giving his court background, relevant points being bayed out by Tory backbench was in Boris's favour imo.

Are you sure it's 'BAME'? The 'BAME' bit appears to have been superseded by 'black' for the 'breaking news'
Report CLYDEBANK29 May 7, 2020 4:44 PM BST
There are more black people infected.  There was an antibody study in NY which highlighted that 22% of black people had been infected, but just 7% of white.  There's more dieing because there are more being infected.  The death rate of health workers is much lower than that of the general population (4 times lower) and bus drivers (2-3 times lower).  Clearly with the general population that's age related, but not with bus drivers.  Which begs the question where health workers are being infected?  Also with health workers you know if they get infected, they'll get hospital treatment.  Plenty of cases of people dieing at home, having been refused hospital entry, and this has been rising, despite hospital deaths falling.
Report CLYDEBANK29 May 7, 2020 4:47 PM BST
Should men be furloughed because they have a higher death rate than women?  The evidence for this is far more concrete than with BAME.
Report Cider May 7, 2020 4:49 PM BST
Exactly CB.

There's a good chat about it here, before the ONS figures today.

Clydebank just on one point face masks aren't genetically suited to a lot of BAME health workers,it appears they now have to do a "fit" test.(courtesy of HSJ) This seems new policy and they will now be re deployed if failing mask "fit" test.
Report CLYDEBANK29 May 7, 2020 4:59 PM BST
One of the reasons why there are so many BAME workers in the NHS is because culturally it's considered the premier profession and held in the highest regard.  On a recent trip to Egypt, every fecker wishing to sell me tatt, asked me if I was a doctor.  In Egypt they have exams at 18 and your score in those exams indicates which profession you can enter, and doctor is top of the list.  If it was the UK and some shyster was trying to sell me tatt, they'd be saying, have I seen your face on tv?  I know which country has it right in that regard and it isn't the UK.

4.3 times bolox

What times is it if you wear bin bags as PPE?

I have been stating since the start incompetent healthcare staff are spreading this virus. This proves it.
Report impossible123 May 7, 2020 5:01 PM BST
It's universally accepted black people do more jamming than Asian or Chinese given their culture and happy-go-lucky-music lifestyle. They are also more likely to be living in numbers, carefree (except the elderly) and working in menial tasks.

The Asians are either in the NHS as medics and nurses; mini-cabbing and catering trade thus greater exposure to the virus. They also live in clusters, and does not integrate where the virus can spread like wild fire. If they have mingled the locals and other ethnics will most likely have a higher mortality rate than the present too, I believe; their propensity to intermarry may be a factor too.

If one compares the above to the Chinese it's evidently clear given their lifestyles, culture and tradition why the Chinese have a lower mortality rate than these two ethnic groups.
Report CLYDEBANK29 May 7, 2020 5:08 PM BST
South East Asians (China Japan Vietnam Korea etc) also have far lower obesity levels than other nations.  Like 5% compared to over 20%

BBC 5 LIVE just been on about this but they never mentioned vitamin D deficiency probably because it doesnt fit their agenda
Report dukeofpuke May 7, 2020 6:43 PM BST
They also mentioned flights but failed to mention that all the people are breathing the same air which ia pressurised and the oxygen content reduced by 30%
Report saddo May 7, 2020 9:32 PM BST
I believe they are conveniently using the 2010 figures for the bame population, the difference in deaths would be markedly less if they could use the new number next year.

Here is the final table of a recent study of 780 patients with covid 19 in Indonesia between 2nd March and 24th April

Association between Vitamin D status and mortality
(adjusted for age, sex, and comorbidity)

Variables OR p-value
Age, mean
< 50 years -
≥ 50 years 10.45
Report eyeball May 7, 2020 10:28 PM BST
sorry , don't know what happened there

D status

Normal         -

Insufficient  7.63

Deficient    10.12

P value 0.001

It basically means that the patients with insufficient vitamin D were 7.63 x's more likely to die . The patients deficient in vitamin D were 10.12

x's more likely to die . The p value means the chances of the results being wrong are 999/1

Surely the results need to be studied and compared with data in the UK ?
