What’s the story here?
I accept clubhouse wouldn’t be allowed for a beer after a round but during fine weather, private clubs could have been functional with money payments online with tee times 15 mins apart.
If need be, two ball pairings only.
It feels as if the powers that be are hellbent on disallowing anything to keep people amused and contented in the same way fishing from private lakes has also been outlawed.
For the record I’m not an enthusiast of either but for some it would have been as risk free as queuing up outside a supermarket or Poundland handling all sorts of potentially dangerous items once in these stores.

I agree, playing a few rounds of golf would have really helped over the last few weeks. Think it will be the first thing allowed when they reduce the lockdown though
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- May 7, 2020 1:32 PM BST
Aye

Lock clubhouse, take clubs home, 2 x 9 hole courses
To help distancing, play 9 holes and go home.. Take about
2-3 hours, no harm done.

Members only... New members could have been signed
up on line to local course

Golf,Fishing,Garden centers,Rubbish tips.... the list goes on to stuff that could have been allowed yet for no discernible reason wasn't.

Panic decision by the civil service without any serious thought. Its as if their thinking was something along the lines of 'well,  i don't play golf so why should Joe Bloggs be allowed to play'. The stupid runts have made so many ridiculous decisions along the way.  Now they are  frantically attempting to dig themselves out  of their self imposed $hit hole.
Report Baphornet May 7, 2020 3:02 PM BST
ta feck wiv that! I wouldn't be able to use the 19th hole as an ecxuse for a few hours of debauchery
Report sofiakenny May 7, 2020 3:13 PM BST
When allowed to open it is a cert that every ruddy course will be absolutely mobbed.
Report Baphornet May 7, 2020 3:16 PM BST
nah the old fogies will still be locked up; the ladies will be looking after kids. (the ones under 90) Deep joy

Report Baphornet May 7, 2020 3:32 PM BST
i would have thought tennis was at least one sport they could easily accomodate
Report nineteen points May 7, 2020 3:34 PM BST

Aussies have developed sandpaper so you don't need to spit or put sweat on the ball.

Spot on...unlike their selves!

Its not so much about the specifics of the activity it is that the government want to be seen to be consistent.

Impossible, though, with the variety of activities, shops etc...
Report Whisperingdeath May 8, 2020 9:26 AM BST
Absolute dumfukkerry from a Government who have no eye deer of how to govern. Morally and Politically bankrupt chain of fools.

They would rather lock someone up for sunbathing than stop a plane full of virus coming in from China.

What is the story?
Report morpteh mackem May 8, 2020 9:28 AM BST
its easier to close things than reopen them. that's the problem, places were closed unnecessarily.

walked past morpeth golf club yesterday, in pristine condition, i'm sure they are getting it ready for customers, very, very soon.
Report Crisp77 May 8, 2020 9:58 AM BST

forgetting about our own political views, and just based on common sense, boris and co including scientists etc have been pathetic in all this, we really are a laughing stock, it would be absolutely hilarious if it wasnt so serious.

The people at Rolls Royce have developed a new tee to rest your balls on when driving! They are wonderful those people at Rolls RoyceLaugh

Think they're opening as early as beginning of next week, but they didn't need to shut as op has stated.

Morpeth has a wonderful course and great members

Well worth a visit if anybody visits the area.

Putting green is great fun too, but not really similar
to what you find on the course.

Make sure you don't pack in early as 18 is a cracking finnish
Report nineteen points May 8, 2020 12:06 PM BST
i will vouch for that donny.equalled the course record once with a walking stick and an orange

Lots of services need not to closed down. Most sports. Golf is a prime example, wide open space, fresh air, exercise etc. Compare with supermarket huh. Takeaways, village pubs and shops. Just ban outsiders from going into villages. The probability of getting the flu is higher than crossing the road or having a heart attack. The lock down worldwide was planned ahead because the world was going into recession this year or next, according to many pundits, so they engineered this to create a recession and then blame the flu and not the politicians, central bankers themselves. The decision making processes, bailout up to £850 a week, letting in people from abroad etc was irrational on its own, unless it was planned.
Report paulypaul May 8, 2020 1:53 PM BST
I'm no expert but Tennis? I'm not sure an infected person handling a tennis ball and passing it to his opponent would be safe, sma efor cricket.
Fishing seems fine, so I don't understand that one. Golf if not handling flags and rakes, guess is ok.
Reckon we might see some of these lifted come Sunday pm.

Add to that ice cream vans (well Leeds City Council has banned them -others haven't) and badminton. Re golf courses not sure what lady members are supposed to do , if you get my drift...
Report morpteh mackem May 8, 2020 2:56 PM BST
we've got ice cream vans round here, wasnt sure whether they would be banned. just been round, might get meself a new magnum ruby  when comes back roundLove

whats the difference between handling a tennis ball and handling your change,a takeaway,a petrol pump a trolley etc?
Report Angoose May 8, 2020 3:55 PM BST
Have you ever tried to play tennis using a fiver Confused
Report ----you-have-to-laugh--- May 8, 2020 4:06 PM BST
Plays golf with an orange but 5 ers are rare stuff up his way

Far more likely they use tennis court to play pitch and toss with a couple of old happenies....
Report mafeking May 8, 2020 8:38 PM BST
just about reducing the number of human interactions surely ? obviously some restrictions will seem more nonsensical than others but you have to draw some sort of line
Report Crisp77 May 9, 2020 6:16 AM BST
I suppose you would need to give your shaft and balls a good clean after each hole.
