When it ended I was watching the Crucible final Thorburn vs Higgins. Thatcher asked the SAS for no loose ends - I think only one of the terrorists survived by playing dead. The rest were taken out the back and executed. I didn't shed any tears.

wouldn't bet my life on it but I think that was the year thourburn hit a 147 I was on him for highest break, but didn't back him to win championship, think he did it very early ,1st round on a Saturday maybe
someone in racing post must have put him up for highest break

Thorburns 147 was in 1983, I remember our teacher bringing it in the next day on video and having the whole class watch it in the AV room.

Vaguely recall a documentary where the soldiers basically admitted they were not taking any prisoners.

the only terrorist who lived was lucky because they wanted to take him back in after he sneaked out with the hostages but there were too many camera's and helicopters around

Seems amazing - to me at least - that The Iranian Embassy Siege, Thorburn winning the snooker, West Ham beating Arsenal in The Cup Final, all happened nearer to the time of The Battle of Britain than to today.
