Escape To The Country's Jules Hudson suffers devastating financial effect of coronavirus: 'My diary's empty and I've lost £60,000 of income in 3 months'

Includes this little chestnut:

If you were Chancellor what is the first thing you would do?

I would do more to help people who are self-employed like me and work in the media. Everybody thinks that just because you're on TV, you're worth a fortune and you earn a huge amount. That's not the case. At the moment, my crew and everybody else is really struggling.

Not only that, wants a taxpayer bailout Cry

I've always loved Land Rovers so last year, when I thought I had enough money, I bought our son Jack his own 'mini' Land Rover for Christmas. It cost £2,500 from a company called Toylander.

What was the best year of your financial life?

It was 2012. I was presenting Escape To The Country, Cash In The Attic and Britain's Empty Homes for BBC daytime – plus a series called Dig 1940. There were days when I was on TV three times on three different programmes.

And he has no dosh  WAC Laugh fook orf

Fair enough you've done well out the tv tax, but don't rub other peoples noses in it. Best not to beg for a bailout when thousands of people are experiencing actual hardship.

This reminds me of a post I made a few weeks ago about people who have worked and saved all their lives and do not qualify for Universal Credit, because they have been prudent and put some money away for a rainy day. Any more than 16 grand in the bank and they get nowt. Yet this TV presenter, (who I've never heard of) who makes 240 Grand a year, thinks he should get financial assistance. Cry Some people really haven't got a clue.

The Self Employed will be entitled to £2,500 maximum assistance, per month, dependant on qualifying requirements.

This C0unt will probably miss out as he is above the profits line.

Who would feel sorry for this chump, really?

I'd be surprised if he hadn't been using the workaround of making himself a company and taking tax free loans.

Hasn't that loophole been plugged?

It has yes but you can still take dividends instead of being tax at the higher bands. I should imagine someone with his earnings is maximising tax concessions via pension contributions being an employee of his own company.

Will pay himself once a year?

He's getting nothing from the public purse and that's right in most people's books..

It's the small fry who may have only recently set up in business and haven't filed an SA return that have my sympathy.

That's a tough gig, there is the bounce back loan now but they'll need to decide if it's worth trying to persist, with the uncertainty or bite the bullet  and go bank into the jobs market.
