Given just yesterday.
1 hour 21 minutes, and yes, he is a very dry presenter, but still well worth watching.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3BdPKpWbxTg

Incidentally, he puts up a slide near the end that shows outcomes for COVID-19 patients who were given different doses of chloroquine.
The slide confirms that a certain world leader talks complete Horlicks.

at what stage were they given the chloroquine angoose? my understanding is that they need it at the start. interesting data from italy of quite a few thousand lupus sufferers who are on hydroxychloroquine and they had a far lower propensity to develop covid so it could work as pre exposure prophylaxis and as treatment if given with zinc and one other drug that i cannot think of. needs proper testing dont dismiss just because trump recommends it.

just found it, high doses so no surprise of more deaths surely?
Report Angoose May 1, 2020 9:28 PM BST
Witty doesn't spend long on the slide, but highly likely that he chose that particular suggested treatment for a good reason. Happy

Is it ok if I dismiss Dettol just because Trump suggested it though, is that permissible Grin
Report Angoose May 1, 2020 9:31 PM BST
For me, the key takeaway is that there continues to be more they do not know than they do know.
Something that I have noted on several occasions on this forum.

dettol, he was joking he meant sulphuric acid Scared

i think there are some conflicts of interest going on, hydroxychloroquine isnt going to make fortunes and is being panned, possibly by people with links to the company making an alternative. in some of the studies saying it is rubbish it was given late on, that whitty piece mentions high doses too. senegal are using it, i linked a report about them on an africa and asia thread - they have a $1 test and the third best recovery rate in the world.

Not saying that it does not have a potential role to play, the dangerous bit is Trump picking up bits of information that his aides have mentioned then misrepresenting them in public.

We know that many existing medicines are being looked at to see if they could be effective with COVID-19, many will have been mentioned in Trump's presence.

But for him to subsequently blurt then out in public along with phrases such as "what have we got to lose" is downright dangerous.

You'd have thought that his aides would have learned not to arm him with such potentially harmful information by now. Sad
Report jollyswagman May 1, 2020 10:27 PM BST
there is lots of 'bad' science around, pretty dangerous really. people put it up here if he goes along with their beliefs too.

i hope any potential vaccine is properly tested.

his aides cannot control him, no one can. you could post some mad 'cure' on the internet and if he saw it he would mention it Shocked

remdesivir given fast track, there may be links between those making this decision and the drug company that produces it Sad
Report breadnbutter May 2, 2020 12:24 AM BST
Think remdesivir was the antiviral being touted as the mother of all antivirals to cure a whole load of viral diseases, and this was before the outbrake, these new style antivirals are pretty recent advances in medicine. But as they say if the cure was a drug/chemical/substance that was freely available I don't think certain folks would be shouting from the rooftops, drugs like asperin, a naturally occurring compound (A precursor to aspirin found in leaves from the willow tree has been used for its health effects for at least 2,400 years) get bad press imo because they are cheap and widely used, not saying asperin is the cure but  not sure big pharma treats naturally occurring substances with the same respect it treats modern new expensive patented drugs.       That's why we need our universities and the like funded independently. They take over, gag and brainwash and direct research in a certain way that is not condusive to cheap cures imo. As for every other thread turning into trump bashing, ffs give it a rest. In fairness to some big drug companies they have allowed certain drugs to be manufactured under licence in other countries so they can be made available much more cheaply but the fact in this day and age if you have the funds anything can be cured, would like to see more emphasis and money spent on prevention and education, the NHS is mostly sticking plasters on gaping wounds, pointless waste imo.           Spend more on prevention, less on lost causes. No one wants to talk about  the stats appearing to suggest we in the UK are not a very healthy nation, no amount of modern medicine can cure an unhealthy, overweight population, ffs seen a mega fatty on crutches other day, see em in disabled scooters. Wtf is that all about? When I was a kid everyone stared at super fatties, fat kids were mocked to within a whisker of thar lives, only real fat people were ones with genuine probs, some of which were gene related, now you see the mega size family, kids that look like beach balls. Needs to stop, And hints at far reaching issues at the center of it.anyway what's the thread about again, Trump bashin I think, long live the Don.dont care for Mercan politics but hoping he gets the gig for another 4 stretch, just to get it up  the libturds.

Disagree with a couple of your points - breadnbutter - But agree with another one.

You say ...

"if the cure was a drug/chemical/substance that was freely available I don't think certain folks would be shouting from the rooftops,"

By that comment, you mean, of course, the pharmaceutical giants.

However - The are 7.6  BILLION people in the World ALL desperate for a cure.

At just a few Pence per person Profit - That would be a heck of a lot of revenue for the manufacturers.
-------------

You also  say ...

"the fact in this day and age if you have the funds anything can be cured,"

Billionaires - Still die of Cancer - and other untreatable issues.
------------

Where I agree, though, is - when you say ...

"no amount of modern medicine can cure an unhealthy, overweight population....

... When I was a kid everyone stared at super fatties, fat kids were mocked to within a whisker of thar lives, only real fat people were ones with genuine probs, some of which were gene related, now you see the mega size family, kids that look like beach balls. Needs to stop,"
----

Totally correct.

Why should the NHS waste our taxpayer's money on - OBESITY CLINICS - and, also, Diabetes Clinics - when the vast amount of Diabetics are as result of being OVERWEIGHT.

Have you noticed the most common denominator in all the Photos of the COVID-19 DEATHS - and of whatever colour? ...

Yes - the vast, vast majority are either OVERWEIGHT, or very much on the large size.

It is staring you in the face - quite literally.

Forgot to note that Witty points out that, in several previous epidemics, the second wave was more deadly Sad
Report InsiderTrader May 2, 2020 11:52 AM BST
1.5% fatality rate if you have symptoms. Is that right?
Report InsiderTrader May 2, 2020 11:53 AM BST
1% rate for those with or without symptoms he reckons.
Report Angoose May 2, 2020 12:00 PM BST
One of the key points maid by Ferguson in his recent interview was to move away from the fixation with a single IFR.
Now, Witty does talk of a single IFR, but does demonstate why Ferguson made his comments by displaying a number of country specific age pyramid graphs.
Report InsiderTrader May 2, 2020 12:51 PM BST
Yes overall rate silly for them talk about.

My wife's uncle who has health issues and is in his late 70s, was in hospital for an unrelated issue, and tested positive for COBID-19 over 2 weeks ago.  Never had any symptons.
