The number of confirmed Covid-19 cases among prison staff has outstripped prisoners for the first time since the lockdown restrictions were imposed, the latest daily update from the Ministry of Justice shows.
As at 5pm on Wednesday, 341 prisoners had tested positive for the coronavirus across 72 prisons, a 1% rise in 24 hours, while 364 prison staff across 64 prisons were confirmed to have the virus, an 8% rise in the same period.
Prison staff have had access to testing, while prisoner testing has been “limited and variable”, according to a recent Public Health England report.
There are around 81,100 prisoners in England and Wales across 117 prisons, and around 33,000 staff work in the public sector prisons.
The figures published by the MoJ are not live cases but include individuals who have recovered.

Bizarrely prisoners are keeping their distance from staff,from what i heard a lot more responsible than moj measures throughout this.
Enough deaths among staff which is admittedly hearsay but imo v correct.
The potential for outbreaks in prisons will hopefully be adverted.

It’s not rocket science, every screws been or getting tested. Inmates would have to be at deaths door to be tested!
Not many staff getting tested unless they have it,granted the prisoners are thrown into the category of "suspected"
I think the staff would be quite happy to spread covid around the inmates
