Swiss authorities say it is now safe for children under the age of 10 to hug their grandparents, in a revision to official advice on coronavirus.

The health ministry's infectious diseases chief Daniel Koch said scientists had concluded that young children did not transmit the virus.

However, he said such meetings should be brief and not involve babysitting.

Switzerland is one of several European countries beginning to ease their lockdown measures.

This week, garden centres and hairdressers have been allowed to open their doors. Schools and shops selling items other than food will be allowed to reopen in two weeks' time.

Dr Koch told a news conference this week that the original advice to keep distance between children and their grandparents was made when less was known about how the coronavirus was transmitted.

"Young children are not infected and do not transmit the virus," he said. "They just don't have the receptors to catch the disease."

Thinly veiled,Scientists are listening to the fat cats with the money ,and the fat cats want the economy moving,so scientists say"lets use the young children as guinea pigs and get the anti bodies out of them(putting them at risk)and inject the same antibodies into the people who can workSadIMVHO.

The revised official guidelines came after consultation with experts at universities in Zurich, Bern and Geneva, Swiss broadcaster SRF reported.

The new advice applies to young children who show no signs of illness while older children must still avoid contact with grandparents.

Dr Koch advised only "brief contact with grandchildren", not family get-togethers, babysitting, or spending time with children outside the home.

However, not all experts concur with the Swiss government's findings.

Sounding a note of caution, Germany's chief virologist Christian Drosten told Austrian broadcaster ORF that there was insufficient data to say conclusively that young children could not transmit the virus.

He said the question of whether children contracted the virus, and if so how they might pass it on, was answered differently in different studies.

Advice in the UK remains that children should not have contact with grandparents.

When does a "young child" become a child ?
And when do they develop the necessary receptors ?

Some of us we could get a little more live sport on...from behind closed doors

The young are at much less risk from this virus

I do not expect people to endanger their own lives

Still the Belarus cup today...better than nothing

The German's done something like this during the war, they collected some sort of strong DNA(not same name) from a certain section of the population and injected it into their army ,and let the donator's die .It was an experiment to make the perfect German.

If I was a grandparent I don't think would not expect the grand children round, you never really know?

The grand children could get infected, I would not want that on my conscience?

Uble, most people don't listen to me and then a new thread appears saying exactly what i say but this is my belief .
The fat cats of the world control the scientists, and the scientists will say anything that suits the fat cats.
And then when they advise governments of their findings ,The governments act on the scientific advice.but the problem is that the fat cats are members of the governments and then apply the scientific advice.in other words the fat cats rule the world and its all about money.nothing else matters.

That is sad BrassneckSad, we need scientists with some integrity.

In fact they should have an integrity to their science...only truth is relevant in science

Unfortunately scientists are human like everyone else, but if they do not tell truth they are betraying their science.

example Matt Handcock says he intends to ramp up testing to 100,000 per day.He has a plan to test everybody for Corona Virus.
if he reaches his target of 100,000 per day it will take close to 2 years to test everyone.
1.8 years to be exact, are we going to be locked up for two years until the tests are complete or is our Matt going to ramp up his testing once more when ever he reaches his 100,000 per day.

tested over 50,000 yesterday but under only 27000 people to test 100,000 people you probably need a 100,000 tests ,probably more with home kits trying to be used by joe  public, delottie running the test results losing them, getting names mixed up,nhs workers certain their positive been tested negative and vica versa, carehomes, clinics, caner wards using their own testing because they dont trust the hancock system,
building up a data base which will be worse than useless for the contact and trace side of operation

And Matt if you happen to be reading this post, one phone call to Germany and you could be testing 300,000 a day.
it seems Matt that that you are not sincere about your testing and are telling another porky.
YOU should have more respect for the good people of the United Kingdom.
