A number of Lib dumb party members are doing it including the weird-looking pansexual one. This feels decidedly creepy especially as they are not converting to the religion and I think many Muslims will feel that way about it too.

Religion is a deeply important part of religious people’s lives, not some random lifestyle accoutrement. Its symbols and rituals have a deep meaning to believers. To casually dip in and out of a religion’s rituals in a visible, public way, particularly for a political organisation whose motivations in taking part in such a thing needs to be robustly questioned, seems offensive to me. It is patronising of Islam ..........

With many Muslims tweeting suggestions of what food they'd like to get stuck into at the end of the fast, Liberal Democrat councillor Ian Manning showed his solidarity by tweeting a photo of...… bacon and eggs  It didn’t take long for Twitter to point out the obvious, that Muslims do not eat pork. Mr Manning quickly deleted his post and apologised, saying the early morning rise had clouded his judgement. He said: ‘Re food photo earlier. Important point is the fast. Allergies mean choices limited. ‘This is a learning experience, and I’d prefer to be honest about it than not. Sorry if it caused offence. ‘Also, it was 4am and I was half asleep.’ ‘I just didn’t think about it. Because there was some bacon in my fridge, I had some bacon,’ he later said in a video. ‘I went on Twitter and posted the eggs and the bacon, tagged the Muslim Council of Great Britain, in one of my finest moments of idiocy. ‘I just didn’t think actually.’ |
