Government and Sage say we are not sure if a face mask is any benefit to the user to stop anyone getting Corona Virus ,we have to follow the scientists opinion,we are viewing the idea daily, and protection for everyone against this virus is a government priority.

They are just waiting to secure an adequate supply line and then the 'science' will change and everyone will be advised to wear one in certain situations.

The only reason we were advised that the 'science' was unclear was because they weren't widely available at the time. Do you think they were advised not to wear them in Asia and they all went against that advice and wore them? Treating people like children with their intelligence insulting nonsense. Just cough and sneeze into your elbow instead and more important to wash your hands 12 times a day Crazy

If I understand correctly, assuming the advice from the health experts is kosher and correct, wearing a mask could reduce the spread of Covid-19 to others. However, it does not prevent the wearers from contracting Covid-19 from others.

Whether this advice is to ease the pressure on the procurement of PPE and enhance their availability to NHS staff and key workers your guess is as good as mine unless the health experts state definitively and categorically one way or another.

Nevertheless, the scenes from other countries speak volume.

same way as nhs workers gather in a room sitting on each others kness, holding hands to get on live tv,same as nhs workers do every thurs night outside hospital entrances, london bridge etc, etc, if you believe the science wear gloves ,wash hands and stand behind someone ,even if inftont of them for a while as long as they don't cough, sneeze directly into your face ,your ok, obviously that's if you believe the science, Wink

We have to follow the science

Because they wear the best face masks and know how to safely use them.  Simple.

I think they are a waste of time myself for the public, unless nearly everyone uses them.  I'd liken them to someone on a zip wire holding onto the rope, as it makes them feel safer.  Get your hands off the rope and live a bit more.  Still, I bet if you took a 100 random people off the street and put them on a zip wire, and told them that it makes no difference, upwards of 75% of over 50s would still hold on to the rope.

The first house I bought was a 2 bed flat in Harlesden NW London in the 90s.  There was a laudrette in the same street.  I recall modernising the kitchen and getting rid of the plumbing for a washing machine!  The kitchen was very small.  The great thing about laundrettes was the industrial strength driers which would dry your clothes in no time.  Thw wife insists on sticking them on the radiators unless it's hot outside these days.  Got to admit, I preferred the laundrette.  Way more convenient.

we always had washer drier at home as lived in a flat for early years when young and it moved all over with us.

These masks protect us from other peoples bodily fluids....when we cough etc, there can be spittle

this will spread the infection
Report CLYDEBANK29 April 27, 2020 4:15 PM BST
They protect other people from the wearer's, but they make it more likely the wearer will catch it.
