At the start of that, first thought was rabbit in the headlights.

If she said i haven't got the exact figures but there is a problem in the care homes i would have respected that.

The fact is there is a huge problem and that is being kept from the public, they admit nothing, take no blame policy strictly enforced by the whole cabinet.

She is poor, really poor. Far too young and far too innocent to hold such a responsible role. A Brexit floosy, no doubt.

But two things to note:

1/ If Piers Morgan would shut his fat, self-serving, gob for just a minute and use the old journalists trick of the 'pregnant pause' these inept people would probably talk themselves into an even worse position. But Morgan thinks bullying people is the only way to go on. He seems pretty typical of big mouth UK as a whole.

2/ All this fuss about care homes FFS. At the start of this pandemic we were warned how this was a virus that was especially dangerous for the vulnerable and  the elderly.

Now, all of a sudden, the media is aghast that old people in care homes are dying! I wish the government, instead of trying to placate everyone but instead peeing off everyone, would just own up and say that trying to isolate care homes from the virus is almost impossible (because it is) and that, very sadly, a lot of old people will die. It is a fair bet that care homes house the more elderly and frail so it is sad but true to say the problem will be really bad in them.

It is really sad when people die but this is something which happens to everything living thing on the planet eventually. We carry on in this country like death is something that we want to eradicate. We won't.

We are a hopeless country and I'd bet that if we do stumble across a vaccine for this virus before the rest of the world we will balls it up and sell off the patent and the rights way too cheaply.

Akak,

How right you are.

If Corbyn and his pals had won the election I suspect this thread would be a lot longer though!

Ditherer Corbyn could not make his mind up about Brexit so one can only imagine how he would have flapped about now.

Its all supposition about what Labour would have done & merely distracts from the reality of where we are
The Tories are running the show & from my viewpoint they have done an awful job of it thus far
Report The Knight April 22, 2020 3:54 PM BST
I am not saying the Tories have done a good job but very few other countries have coped either - Germany and South Korea aside.

Sadly, our media our all too keen on employing the enormous benefit of hindsight in lashing into the government.

We can all see what should have been done better - and I am far from sure the lockdown was the right thing to do - but in the end we have gone from normal life to standing still inside 4 weeks. Given the rapidity of it all, we have managed to sort a few things out.

BUT, you are right about the waste of time in speculating what Labour would have done. It is the other side of the same coin when criticizing the government.

In the end, all of the people should be shocked at how just how little cooperation there has been between different countries. Instead, everyone seems to be competing with each other for PPE and ventilators, the lockdowns seem to differ, and much else is all over the place. It surely would have been pulled together much better by a world class leader.

I have always idly speculated that the only thing which might bring much of the world together was if aliens started orbiting the earth with a view to landing.

But now I don't think it would seeing as the lack of a coordinated response from the world over this virus (where is the UN is all this) has been so noticeable.
Report Angoose April 22, 2020 3:58 PM BST
The UN is represented in this by the WHO which Trump continues to attack.
The UK is eligible to participate in an EU procurement scheme, but chooses not to and lies about the reasons why.

We have seen national interests lord it over a global response.
Voices in the UK, such as Gordon Brown, are ignored when calling for a global response.

Whilst he is a tainted character in the eyes of many, he played a substantial role in leading a global response to the 2008 financial crash, thus has some insight that may actually be worth listening to.
Report geordie1956 April 22, 2020 4:03 PM BST
You raise some interesting points but from the UK perspective the idea of Brexit was to reintroduce more patriotism which is insular and against Globalisation ...
I'm not blaming just the UK because the US are talking about closing borders in a form of isolationism and denegrating the UN and reducing help to fund the WHO
If more countries go down that route then international co-operation will not exist and any global response to something similar will be even more haphazard

The only ones who cannot see are the ones in Government.

Many mp’s will have lost their careers as a result of their performance er maybe not but they would have had their aspirations dented...good because of their negligence many people have died who shouldn’t have just yet.

I can sort of understand why people stay on the dole if they can have leather sofas, sky tv and foreign holidays with a bit of choring and drug dealing on the side for holiday money!
