Perhaps the pubs could re open at the same time as non essential shops etc based on the square footage of the premises.Everybody keeps a safe distance and gets a max of 10 pints or maybe 2 hour slot.

I wonder if any forumites have a "secret knock" to gain access to the joy of a pint?

I would suggest anyone trying to buy non or low alcoholic drinks are classed as non essential drinkers and asked to leave

at the best of times nothing worse than a barmaid / barman being tied up for 10 mins as someone orders 3 lattes & then deliberates over the menu ... immediately has to go to find the table number ... returns and thinks about something else & buys a biscuit
hopefully if we ever get back to more enlightened times it will be the alcohol which takes preference ... we'll all need one (several)

If the NHS remains under the cosh it is unlikely this will be allowed to open - too much of a competition with Covid-19 for the service of NHS.

Agree with Geordie the Gastro mob can foook orf out of it , PUBS FOR BEER , till we can return to normal ... Also ban w@nkers who sit around with a glass of wine for 2 hours , taking up valuable drinking space .

Geordie makes a good point but equally annoying are the Camra mob, asking for the pint topped up to within a millimetre of the rim then pulling out a notebook and writing an essay about it.Mischief

Communal pots of peanuts and crisps on the bar a total non starter.10 year sentence for any landlord attempting to offer this usually kind gesture.

Maybe the old boxing glove on a spring in a box might help sort out the afore mentioned time wasters

Never touch communal pots of peanuts if still on offer at pubs. It's proven they contained dry "semen" on almost every one of them. I dare you!

People put celery in their drinks at my local in Notting Hill. The boxing glove in a box would deal with that issue!

The last time I was in a proper one was in 1977 in North London next to college; billiard table and shepherd's pie with Woman In Love blasting out from the music box. My most recent one (if I'd call it) was at the Drunken Monkey in Shoreditch; nice food but music was far too loud for 2pm saturday.

Village pub less than 200 yards away, nearly every morning when walking the dog I would see a couple of I guess semi retired guys from adjoining village clocking in about 10.30 - 11,know them quite well by now as they spend plenty of time outside even in winter for a cig, anyhow yesterday I spotted them walking across the pub car park with what I can only presume was a bag full of booze heading for the beer garden which is nicely secluded.

A pleasing thread. God I miss the pub!

Beer gardens may form part of the solution in the summer.

And yes, kick all coffee machines out!
