Now, if we could only find a way to place 465 face masks in to each tin, one for every bean, then we'd be in clover.
Time for Matt Hancock to wave his magic wand. ![]() |

If we assume that they have a 20% market share, then a whopping 2.5M cans of beans were consumed yesterday.
And a further 2.5M will be consumed today. Heinz market share is around 32% (an all-time low) due to consumers switching to cheaper own brands. |
|
By:
Wow, typical market share of greater than 32%, now that's impressive.
I must admit though, nobody else does beans like Heinz, I've tried them all and nobody gets it right. |

By:
I prefer Crosse & Blackwell. As long as you don't over cook they don't go all mushy like Heinz do.

tbh it's Crosse + Blackwell or no baked beans for me. Don't care for mushy beans myself.

Yes, 32% is impressive. If asked to guess, I would have estimated at between 15 and 20%.

All that sugar and salt is what gets us into them as kids. Once had a tin without the sauce. Was part of a recipe. They looked so unappetizing.
|
|
By:
It is the sauce that makes them, no doubt about that.
Heinz Beans in the US have way more sugar in them than the version we get. Similar scenario for chocolates, even good quality ones like Godiva. ![]() |

With Beans I've found you get what you pay for.....if you go budget friendly the results are ghastly Heinz is the GOAT! Deal With It!

Of the cheaper Branston is prob the best Asda's own brand is particularly bad.

Branston is Crosse & Blackwell. I forgot that they changed their branding.

Heinz may be the bestselling beans.
But when it comes to taste, it might be better to bring out the Branston's. In a series of blind tasting tests, Branston beans came out top, with four out of five stars for taste. Heinz could only manage fourth place, behind Asda and Morrisons beans. Consumer group Which? asked 120 shoppers to sample 12 brands and award them marks for appearance, aroma and texture. The panel liked British brand Branston's "tasty s auce" and we r e impressed by its thickness and colour. At an average 63p a can, Branston beans - launched only five years ago - are also 1p cheaper than their US rival Heinz, which has 67 per cent of the market. Bottom of the pile were "value" range beans from Tesco, Sainsbury's and Asda. A Which? spokesman said: "Cheaper beans are best avoided." |

On the subject of the sauce, I sometimes like to add a little Worcestershire sauce and Tabasco.
|

nick
I agree. They're all pretty sh!te without adding something like Worcs sauce, Tabasco, Hot Chilly sauce, loads of pepper, etc. Without them a touch of butter helps but still pretty bland. |
|
By:
Branstons much the best imo.
|
|
By:
It is the sauce that makes them, no doubt about that.
the sauce on Heinz beans seems to be watery and bland compared to when I was a kid we go for HP or Branston. Wigan is home to the worlds largest baked bean factory or so I am told |

By:
i simply buy a 35p tin of Sainsbury's own and use my own special recipe ...beats all the others hands down ...
just requires tomato puree, a few spices at hand and bingo Heinz and all the others lack flavour |
|
By:
in fact anything you buy in the store that is formulated is complete crap ... it's best to just take time to perfect your own recipes and you will eat very well

Advice on this board prompted me to try Branston's and I am now a convert.

That's 2 blind taste tests and Branston top of both. I can't recall when I bought anything other than Branston as first choice, so much so that I still refer to them as Crosse and Blackwell. On the odd occasion I bought Heinz, because Branston wasn't available, it only confirmed to me Branston was superior.

just shows how hard it is to get hold of Branstons; if the populus is buying gunge pulse Heinz 0 varieties - taste instead.
