It's about time we (Western countries) took a hard look at the Indian and African (various) health services. They seem to be coping with this pandemic admirably. The figures for infection and deaths are tiny in relation to "ours". They must be doing something right.

I notice that the imbalance with UK BAME victims is getting some press. Overcrowded living conditions is thought to be one reason but is it more overcrowded in London than in Mumbai, Delhi or the dozens of major African cities?

I fear we may find out how good India/ Africa health services are.

There are some factors in their favour- their leaders could see what was happening in Europe & USA before it had really got hold in their country.

Some charts use 10 deaths as a starting point - India had already imposed a "lockdown " at this point. How effective a lockdown is in a city of 20 million is a different matter.
Africa countries have also imposed some sorts of lockdown & many countries are fairly low density rural living. Their are a few massive cities which could be a worry.

There is also an unproven theory that warm air temperature slows down infection rate. That won't help South Africa much as we approach winter.

As with the rest of the world, time, good decision and luck will be important.

Firstly. figures are opened to manipulation. Secondly, how accurate are the figures from Mumbai and Delhi? In addition, London is a cosmopolitan city compare to Mumbai and Delhi; the incumbents of the former are also more affluent and mobile.

London is also closer TO the virus hotspots ie Europe. But, the UK need a new Health Secretary.

lol no. Their 40-60 year olds might be in equivalent health to our 60-80 year olds though.

Have you ever been to India or any of the other countries you have quoted?
The figures are complete bollocks as they won't be testing and deaths will be simply stated as lung infection or pneumonia
India's deaths will be in the tens of thousands

There was a worry in Southern Africa that they have a fairly large number of HIV positive people.

Basically we don't know yet , which may explain why "lockdown " was called early. There are some good signs in the demographics & some bad signs.
Experience will help. China are keen to trade with Africa so may send doctors & equipment.
Give it a month & will have a better idea.

Security forces enforcing the lockdown in parts of Nigeria have killed more people than coronavirus itself, a local rights group says.
Evidence of the killings comes from members of the public who rang their hotline or sent in videos, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) adds. It says law enforcers have killed 18 people in Nigeria since lockdowns began on 30 March.
Coronavirus has killed 12 people, according to health ministry data.
