Where I live 1/500  Positive tests Yet care home deaths are rocketing

The only possible reason is that the Virus must be rife in the general population Plain

14 Have died in a care home 2 miles away from where I live ...

Agency staff seem the most plausible explanation to me,the elderly seem very susceptable as well, i don't know tbh.

Families sell homes to provide funding for the care of relatives, in private care homes... surely it's not beyond the profits of owners to provide equipment for their staffs protection?

My aunt died of it last week.  This is a good thing as she'd had Alzheimer's for 21 years and was reduced to an underweight 'vegetable' who had long gone past recognising anyone, even her husband.  Keep a dog in her state and you'd rightly get done for animal cruelty but because it's a human it has to be endured.  Interesting thing though is that she was named after her aunt who had died as a child in 1918 from the Spanish Flu.

When I was visiting a care home last two years it was clear that staff travel to and from the Home in uniform. The opportunity for infection was clear, particularly when  dealing with dementia and alzheimers patients wandering in and out of each other's space. It was always going to be a hotspot and I am surprised it has taken so long to be news. Add this to owners that have taken money out without investing in PPE equipment in advance and it had to happen. The next surge could be in retirement homes where many elderly are vulnerable and better isolated but often have carers coming and going on a regular basis.

100% correct treetop. Staff in and out of work on a daily basis and the nature of the job means that they are in close proximity to the frail elderly patients all day long. Still travelling back and forth yet and only now are there any signs of testing staff. Once it gets a hold in a care home its too late.
