Apparently only 60% of those excess deaths mentioned cov19 on death certificate.

Why 2,300 extra deaths...outside cov19....over that week?

Listening to NHS guy on the news he seemed very concern that people with other serious illnesses aren't attending hospital form fear of the virus.

Plenty of old folks will simply be throwing in the towel especially those living on their own.  "Natural causes".  All the things they live for suddenly taken away from them and no end in sight

by all accounts its not a matter of throwing in the towel , but a horrible painfull ,frightening way to go

Suspect he is referring to non COVID-19 deaths, people who just feel that they have nothing left to live for.

ooops sorry,yeh get that
Report GoBallistic April 14, 2020 7:15 PM BST
I wasn't talking about covid deaths or people with the virus.  The question is why there appear to be a lot of extra non-covid deaths if the numbers are correct

My mother used to work at a care home and there is anecdotal evidence of residents peaceful passing away following a significant event.

That event could be the death of their partner, reaching a notable birthday etc

There will be many factors, and more data will be required for future weeks before they are able to provide a meaningful analysis.
Very possible that a significant number will have contracted COVID-19 but simply were not tested and COVID-19 was not mentioned on the death certificate.

Maybe the worst thing about the care home situation is family members not being able to visit and in many cases the residents are not going to understand why and feel abandoned.  Also it's inevitable that their care will suffer - probably the biggest reason is that typically it's the family visits which keep the standard of care up and the family that hold the homes and staff to account.  Don't think there are any easy answers - as soon as this thing took hold you knew that the care home situation would be a nightmare

Data will be provided tomorrow regarding what is known in care homes in Scotland. It could be grim stuff.

Difficult times, close friend of the wife's was halfway through her breast cancer treatment and has had her appointments cancelled, owing to the treatment weakening her immune system and making her vulnerable, whilst a friend of mine with a heart condition, due to attended hospital for a checkup on Thursday, told me today he had phoned and cancelled, said the consultant was insistent he attended but he's not bothering.
