Trump Could Have Seen What Was Coming

A long read but well worthwhile and here is some reaction to the NYT article.

Prominent US public health adviser Dr Anthony Fauci appeared on Sunday to confirm a bombshell New York Times report which said he and other Trump administration officials recommended the implementation of physical distancing to combat the coronavirus in February, but were rebuffed for almost a month.

Asked on CNN’s State of the Union why the administration did not act when he and other officials advised, Fauci said: “You know … as I have said many times, we look at it from a pure health standpoint. We make a recommendation. Often, the recommendation is taken. Sometimes, it’s not.

“…It is what it is. We are where we are right now.”

More than 530,000 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in the US, with almost 21,000 deaths. Officials currently expect a death toll of about 60,000 by August.

CNN host Jake Tapper asked if Fauci thought “lives could have been saved if social distancing, physical distancing, stay-at-home measures had started [in the] third week of February, instead of mid-March”.

“It’s very difficult to go back and say that,” Fauci said. “I mean, obviously, you could logically say, that if you had a process that was ongoing, and you started mitigation earlier, you could have saved lives. Obviously, no one is going to deny that.

“But what goes into those kinds of decisions is complicated. But you’re right. I mean, obviously, if we had, right from the very beginning, shut everything down, it may have been a little bit different. But there was a lot of pushback about shutting things down back then.”

Tbf he stopped flights from China rather sharpish and from Europe

Secondly as I've stated a thousand times, when China has an 'alleged' death rate of 3,000 out of 1,400,000,000 then no country's alarm bells would start ringing.

China was also stockpiling PPE and that's caused a ripple effect for a lot of countries around the world

All right moaning about Dems, Chinese etc. etc. but the bottom line for USA rests with Trump and his ill-equipped administration.

Point is - as the article itself states - the whole world knows that China cooks its books, and the US (and Europe) had enough contacts and knowledge of the real danger this illness had. I'd be embarrassed if my youngest believed China's death toll and based a strategy on it, never mind the President.

everybody was blind sided by the usa/china trade deal and then governments looked at economy's more than lives,even though footage from china that we were allowed to see on the news showed cities the size of birmingham being locked down,spraying the streets with disinfectant or whatever and drones flying around the cities looking for people out and about which all suggested that this is more serious than we are being told

If some American YouTube in China knew it would be big and that China was hiding the true extend of it in January at a latest, then the CIA should've known by the end of December.
