Discovered they'd been stolen today ;have reported it online to police.
Trouble is don't know when they were taken as haven't driven it for a week. Presumably I'll be getting a load of speeding tickets/parking fines etc....will I need a solicitor to get them cancelled ?
posy ...annoying , but no need to panic . over the years happened to me 3 times on 3 different cars parked in 3 different locations ! halfords will do your new ones , not expensive and crucially have the harder to remove screws . most nicked ones used for low grade crime . usually filling up with fuel and driving off .

380k wow, that's a lotta nectar points. They will be doing card fraud with contact less cards imo, mask on.Fuel fill and run prob not good idea atm imo, but they must have had the choice of a lot of cars as everyone at home, prob just parked in the wrong place. Be out scamming supermarkets , B+Q ect most likely imo.if the plates reappear on car in morning, time to get a alibi . Try your local indy garage, they will have a plate laminator and be cheaper than Hfrds.

Or just use old floor laminate, paint yellow, use black electrical tape, or does that age of car use white rear plate!, lol. Used to make them like that for towing, prob illegal now. Some of them older volvos were still on a carburator, prob a 240dl (s), had some interesting paint options, wine red, sky blue, a horrible green, ect.. The darker blue was OK, but no doubt yor a diehard volvo man and its biege /faded yellow, big buses and OK to do a job.

Had a pair of stolen plates thrown into some semi-overgrown ground next to my garden
Couple of nights later - after I had removed them, wearing gloves, of course, - saw 3 lads turn up in a car and start somewhat frantically looking for them.
Reported everything to the Police - including descriptions of the lads and the colour and registration of the car they were in.
A few days later - the most naive looking 'community policeman' - just a well-meaning 'wet behind the ears' kid really - knocked on my door to collect the number plates.
He did not ask any further questions, or make any notes.
He simply took the Plates from me - in the supermarket bag I had put them in - and stuffed them down his jacket.
Police USELESS - the only 2 words that you could use.
BUT - They still get a fair chunk out of my COUNCIL TAX every year, though.

Thanks for your advice guys. I'll wait a day or two to see if the police want to look for prints on the car and then get replacements with the secure screws. I live in an isolated area on an unmade road so very little chance of the thieves being disturbed.

Heard somewhere that you can get a sticker off the cops for your rear screen so that the ANPR doesn't flag your motor for a pull when you've replaced the plates.

I have a German friend who lives here but his Merc was registered in Deutschland. He had his plates nicked a couple of times presumably by people not wanting parking fines or speeding tickets

Someone I knew KC bought a clapped out car over 30 years ago, had to drive 300 miles to pick it up it was expensive, the car was only fit for scrap the number plate though was Jef 3
