There'll be crops in the field that need 'a pickin'.
Migrant workers either buggered off, or less than enthusiastic about offering their labour.
Who will they recruit?
Students, Furloughed workers with a death wish??
I'd tentatively, and respectfully put forward those lazy bas^ards who appear to never do a day's work in their lives and are sucking the life out of the state
Can I also nominate the hooded youth who hide behind 'ADHD' and other nonsensical medical conditions as candidates to pick the crops that would otherwise rot in the ground.
If you've never had work experience -this is your time.
If you're scared of work - fear not
If you're smashing your parent's home up because you're 'ADHD' and your brain is getting frazzled with Ritalin-This is your chance to get out of your bedroom and experience some nature and work.
For those of you whose only experience of plant cultivation is nurturing cannabis plants - this is your opportunity to learn about other plants.

Yes there will be Many women in Certain areas who the fit the Never worked a Day description , Preferring Book studying and Having children ..
With the fathers not working if they did ? perhaps they could look after the Kids ,Alternating between the Various homes the children are at , Let the Women out for a break .... I would not hold my breath TBH .. |

Leif,a lot of the fields around me don't seem to have bothered doing anything yet, there are a few fruit farms near enough.
I would pick fruit and will put my name down for that in mid May if i don't become a statistic, fruit thrown away and not much getting through from far lands is going to be a problem. |

Maybe can they could release prisoners to pick the crops.
Offer them a reduction on their time if they're prepared to work on the chain gang. Could envisage some begging to take them back to the nick after a day's toil in the soil  |

We have four campsites available for workers who choose to live at the farm

Seriously i was surprised to see that and not sure that could be adhered to,walking, push bike, own transport a must imo, they seem to be safe covid measures in place overall on faqs, i would run if not. |

It would be a national scandal if unprotected workers/human beings were packed like sardines into caravans just to satisfy the cultivation of seasonal crops.
'They', and they will be a diverse and desperate group in many ways, need to be protected. |

Get them of the rock n roll and into the fields Will save the NHS a bit of cash too (in the future) as most of those dossers have a shìt diet and exercise routine |

minimum wage plus bonus depending on amount picked, heard/read 300/350 is top wack, be interesting to see how many rap after a few days

57 quid a week for a room in a caravan on site for for remote locations, anyone expecting a sing song and homemade lemonade will be in for a shock hardest days work in a lifetime for most people,

i used to pick fruit i north county dublin as a kid .by god it was hard work.

There used to be a fruit farm near me where you could pick your own, but alas it closed. My mother used to grow a lot of fruit, around 10 gooseberry bushes, maybe 50 red and white raspberry canes, maybe 100 strawberry plants, blackcurrants, redcurrants, white currants. If you are picking for say half an hour or an hour it's quite enjoyable, though I can imagine an all day stint becomes a right pain in the arse.
My gran used to have loganberries in her garden. Like a big bitter raspberry. I've never seen one since. |

I did some grapepicking for a month last year. Hardest work I'd ever done but syrangely q enjoyable. Had a diverse mix of w a s ps - got paid in cash plus a wine alliowance. Will prob do it again.

I am sure that farmers will pay what it takes to get stuff picked until they find they are trading at a loss when the crops will be abandoned. Supply and demand rules in Agriculture like in no other industry. The less people turn up for work, the greater the shortages will be and the higher the price of the product will be which will lead to higher wages etc. A 5% drop in production can lead to a doubling of price although imports have made that less likely in recent years. Equally prices quickly collapse as the dairy industry has found in the last 2 weeks. No change in the supermarket prices of course although the ex farm price has halved or in some cases is zero if the dairy is refusing to collect it.

Asparagus is great. Makes your pee smell a bizarre strong smell.
You should try some once just for the experience. Get others you're self isolating with in to watch and sniff, make an occasion of it. |
