"And I believe that part of it is due to the genuine fear that the authorities and the community have about provoking the radical elements of Islam," he said.

"There's no doubt about it, the BBC will let vicar gags pass but they would not let imam gags pass.

"They might pretend that it's, you know, something to do with their moral sensibilities, but it isn't. It's because they're scared. I know these people."

Pounf, I think people deserve to know the reason for the blatant over-respect of only one religion by the BBC. If it is through fear it is a worry.

Doridoru - would you put that joke on line if it had your name and address attached? Just asking. Alas, an anonymous forum is not the place to be making that particular point - however worthy the sentiment.

The BBC is too 'scared' to allow Islam jokes, says Ben Elton

Young people do not watch the bbc so all good things come to an end.

It's kind of sad and wierd that the US, who arguably used to be far behind us on comedy, and is the land of hysterical overreaction and being sued and so on .. is now ahead of us. The cartoons (Family Guy, American Dad, South Park) are quite happy to take the odd swipe at every religion, islam, christianity, jews, nothing is off limits, take on Social Justice Warriors etc.

We however surely have amongst the most pathetic, self censoring, woke, left wing bullshit comedy on the planet? Scared sh1tless of offending any of the many "off limits" groups (such as the subject of this thread) for the pathologicaly Woke, so all we get is 30 minutes of slagging off Brexit, Trump, and of course "The Tories".

That's our comedy now, apparently.

For some reason it's easier to do in a cartoon/animation as though it's not real so it can't be offensive
We aren't well known at all for making adult cartoons are we?

We (the British) did Life of Brian. French Cartoonists discovered such things are not possible with famously peaceful people...

Illegal migrants in Dover and Hastings yesterday. No-one will be sent back and no-one will be quarantined, yet we are not allowed on the beach to social distance.

Not sure I know what that means but people who blindly follow religions without questions are in my opinion ignorant. The best way to highlight their ignorance I believe is through humour not by telling them they are ignorant cave dwellers. Satire and lampooning makes a great statement. The religion has it coming. God bless Dave Allen

The staff at Charlie Hebdo thought that until a couple of AK47's made a greater oneCry

The BBC's remit these past few years is apparently to disallow all jokes, except those at the expense of middle-aged, white, Christian, male, right-wing Brexiteers.

Curb Your Enthusiasm.

It must have taken potshots at almost ,if not all, religions and social groupings.

There is not a chance in a million a similar programme would be made in the UK ......less than 80 years since we fought for freedom.

I am surprised they even let us watch it.
