1.3 million people in the NHS. 21 reported deaths covid 19 positive.
9875 reported deaths of people covid 19 positive. Any passing away from the disease is a tragedy but the NHS worker figure is disproportionately lower than the nation as a whole. It's a disgrace that media are making out that all of the NHS deaths are down to lack of PPE. It's possible of course but NHS workers are no more immune than anyone else, and as they are working the inherent risk is higher. |
By:
i'm still waiting for some brave journo to ask how medical staff have actually caught the virus? Presuming they are all PPE protected; the cleanliness of their hands is not an issue either
By:
theres been 200 nhs candidates for possible death on ch 4 this week crtamming into small rooms holding hands breaking every social distancing rules in the book all for the x factor glory of getting a wave, thumbs up,on live tbv, they should be ashamed of themselves, I wouldn't waste a 10p paper hat on any of them, never mind a 3 grand hamza suit

When Patel was asked if she would apologise to NHS staff for the failings that are leading to the shortage of PPE, her response was to say that she is "sorry that people feel that there have been failings". Is that good enough? Is she suggesting that there have not been failings, and that NHS are just perceiving it that way?

How dare you try and apply logic to the numbers cider.
As a counter to it though could it be that the deaths we are seeing now are from people who got infected 3 or more weeks ago when numbers in hospitals were much lower. Localised PPE shortages now could result in a surge of NHS deaths later down the line as they are being exposed to it now whilst most people are at home on the sofa? The army and many others are working night and day to source and distribute PPE but tragically it could still get hit when surges occur locally in some cases. |
By:
How dare I apply logic
It's statistically impossible for one section of 1.4 million people to avoid death from the virus. And as I alluded to they have inherent risk as they are not able to stay at home. |
By:
All sections of society are going to lose people to the virus. I'm calling out the disgraceful way it is being reported.
By:
Cider: my thoughts are that they have caught it elsewhere. Which somehow deflates the issue. I still think the question should be asked though
By:
It's an undoubted challenge IT. It's one everyone is aware of, nobody is not issuing PPE as a policy decision. One of the toads asked Patel can she give a date when everyone will have the PPE they want. I'm unable to put into words the contempt that question deserves, one from an individual who ought to have a modicum of intelligence.
By:
Of course its a relevant question particularly when front line staff are dying
If Gov't give honest answers it would help instead of attempting to obfuscate with every reply .. if they haven't got enough equipment say so and why Good on the hacks in attempting to get an intelligible response |
By:
The requirements are changing on a daily basis so it's literally impossible to answer. It's equally impossible to prevent randoms taking to twitter saying their colleagues aren't getting PPE.
By:
I can't see Patel getting away with the pathetic "sorry you feel that way" response. And as for Hancock, suggesting that PPE equipment will only run out if NHS staff on the frontline don't use it properly. That is contemptible. Why can't they take responsibility and admit their failings, intsead of these ptronising and insulting comments?
By:
The channel 4 stooge used a proxy, stating NHS workers are saying that widespread deaths are being caused by lack of PPE, does she want to apologise to them. Clearly she should apologise for something that is incorrect, or at least there is no evidence for.
By:
*not (important!)
By:
If he'd have said does the government apologise to anyone who has had to work without the required PPE, that would have been a fair request imo and she should have. But the yellow belly used a proxy and ramped it up seeking a gotcha.
By:
So, is it not true that NHS staff are reporting shortages of PPE equipment? Is that a myth?
By:
The stooge was using a proxy to say it was causing widespread deaths.
By:
the fact is cider is attempting to articulate a response favourable to fatty patel ... she should have apologised .. NHS staff have appeared on telly saying that PPE equipment is in horribly short supply ... that is a fact
By:
deaths are an inevitable consequence of the absence of respiratory equipment
By:
From what I've seen NHS staff have appeared on telly from their home saying front line colleagues are stating they aren't getting the PPE they want. I've not yet seen one who is themselves saying they aren't getting the required PPE. I'm not watching all shows all of the time of course.
By:
The BMA are saying that supplies of PPE are at "dangerously low levels" in some parts of the country, notably London and Yorkshire.

Most of these briefing questions are aimed at trapping the government, not seek out helpful information.
