... these numbers from the BBC website

Further 866 deaths announced in England

NHS England has announced 866 further deaths of people who had tested positive for Covid-19.

It brings the total number of confirmed deaths in hospitals in England to 8,114.

Of the new deaths announced today, 117 occurred on 9 April, 720 between 1 April and 8 April, and 29 in March.

So "only" 117 deaths occurred in the last 24 hours??

Or am I missing something???

Done that... none the wiser.

So how many people died from the virus in the last 24 hours?

Clearly there is a lag between someone dying and the administrative process related to that death being completed.
Thus, the admin process for many who will have died yesterday will not yet be complete, once it is they will be added to the figures on that particular day.

Worldometer will change to 980 once the official tweet has been issued.

There are also differences in how the four home country NHS boards collate the figures when compared to the national figure.
On any given day, if you add the four individual figures they do not match the national figure.

Minor admin differences, thus best to stick to looking at just one data set which will use the same method each day.

Matt Hancock says the number of deaths across the UK of people in hospital who tested positive for coronavirus has now reached 8,958 - a 980 increase on yesterday.

He says 19,116 tests have been carried out across Great Britain, with 5,706 testing positive.

These are quotes from Hancock according to the BBC. How can 8958 deaths have resulted from 5706 positive tests?

Thanks for that. If we have a lag of 13 days in recording a persons death in hospital, no wonder we were a bit lax in testing and buying PPE equipment.

Obviously, people are succumbing before the result of their tests are known. Lags again!!
