...They're currently building a system from scratch.
Employers will be bombarding them en masse very, very shortly.
Even if they have a 'new' system that's robust enough to absorb the applications, and they have managed to train up a partial amount of the workforce to deal with the contact, those that are still risking their lives by attending offices, or they've managed to roll out a webchat system to those that are literate enough to respond to punters and working from home;
Good f£c(*7 luck with getting money to the boots on the ground
This scheme is great in theory, but a lot of the small companies don't have the cash flow to pay their employees on the pay date, thus a lot of people won't get any cash till May/June.
I've told people I know to apply for Universal Credit as well and pay that back when the furlough money starts coming in.
Another thing the government has done to quickly is giving £1000 per annum additional for Covid relief Universal credit to new and existing UC claimants. However a significant portion of unemployed are still on Job Seekers Allowance as they have not yet been transferred across to UC. But this £1000 has not been given to them, which is discrimination and legal cases will definitely be brought against DWP when this dies down in the future, so expect Boris to have to dip again for a few more billion.

It's not that straight forward for the banks. Their systems and processes are not designed to just give money out to businesses with no risk assessment. Plus their workload has spiked enormously when at the same time they'e facing the challenges of working from home and increased sickness.

It's a reversal of whereby an employer would transfer funds into their PAYE system to pay HMRC.
This system might see HMRC shovelling money the 'other' way so that employers can remunerate their employees.
Bear in mind this system is being created from scratch.
It is being 'tested'.
Fun and games.

HMRC envisage an avalanche of contact surpassing that which would be expected at the peak of self assessment contact.
Anyone who has been caught up in the tidal wave of SA season will identify.
HMRC staff have retreated en masse to homeworking during COVID 19 season.
There are less than desirable numbers in situ at the bacteria filled offices.
They will attempt alternative modes of contact for employers, but,
It will be fuc%%%g chaos.

Wouldn't it constitute as benefit fraud if you applied for UC given that you were gainfully tenured by your employer?
You cannot be be employed and unemployed simultaneously?

Under the furlough/paid leave of absence, you're guaranteed 80% of your wage up to that 2.5k margin.
If you turn around and say you earned zilch you are saying you aren't tenured.
You can only apply for UC if you've been laid off.

"but a lot of the small companies don't have the cash flow to pay their employees on the pay date"

the decision , saying it seemed a cruel Action , the problem is , THEY WONT BE ABLE TO PAY THE WORKERS in a month .........
Already firms had stopped paying them OWED MONEY , and cancelled orders going forward , not a small Firm by any means

If they have less than a 100 employees a company will have to enter each employee's details in separately, Name, Nat ins no. payroll number etc.
That's just one part of the application.
A system built in just 3 weeks, with millions accessing it on Monday, and a contingency of termites never having worked this format, what could possibly go wrong

just using our company as an example, we were struggling before this but according to MD the bank may front the money to pay us prior to get the 80% from Gov coffers its not 100% guaranteed but could happen and the better the company balance sheet the more likely others could be to front the loot.
I do agree though this has all the hallmarks of being a total calamity - keep calm and dont get paid!

There will be so many applications being made on a brand new system it's likely to become overwhelmed and crash.
The wife says HMRC are throwing everyone they can mustre into the coalface.
With another 3 weeks worth of lockdown to endure I hope the prisoners get their wages or it could turn ugly

The 25 th Pay dayers, Might as well whistle ,if a small company it wont happen unless said company can pay the wages , and even that will surely depend on what percentage of the bank it is using ..

The expectation is that if a company submits their claim successfully, the money should be in their account within 5/6 days.
If they've heard nowt within 10 days they're to contact the minions at HMRC, the vast majority of them sat at home on webchat and wielding a large cricket bat.

Instances manifesting wherein individuals who've left a business, and found themselves subsequently applying for Universal credit only to find their last employer has been claiming furlough (80%) for them and consequently means they are eligible for UC. If these **** are found liable they should be strung up by their gonads
