Rochdale MP Tony Lloyd admitted to hospital with coronavirus

The Labour MP is said to be in a 'stable' condition in Manchester Royal Infirmary

ochdale MP Tony Lloyd is in hospital with coronavirus, the Labour Party has said.

He's said to be in a 'stable' condition.

Labour said he was being treated at Manchester Royal Infirmary.

Mr Lloyd's family meanwhile said he was 'responding to treatment' and, in a statement, thanked the NHS for the care he is receiving.

No further information has been released.

In a statement released through the party, his family said: "He is is stable and responding to the treatment and dedicated care that he is receiving from the brilliant doctors, nurses and other healthcare staff at the hospital."

The Labour Party confirmed the news on Monday afternoon, saying Mr Lloyd 'has been hospitalised in Manchester Royal Infirmary with coronavirus'.
Mr Lloyd, 70, was MP for the former Stretford constituency between 1983 and 2012.

He also served as Greater Manchester's police and crime commissioner and Greater Manchester mayor.

He was elected MP for Rochdale in 2017 and held the seat for Labour at last year's general election.

Mr Lloyd is shadow secretary of state for Northern Ireland.
