Thanks tobes, interesting article. You have to wonder whether the money and effort would be better invested elsewhere in the NHS
I would guess most people who have died so far would not have been on a ventilator at any point (by choice) but it's very much a guess because nobody seems to want to address it. My mum who's in her early 80s / no health issues definitely wouldn't be put on a ventilator - she's got the DNR status - but even if she didn't have that wish I'd assume that it's pretty likely that it would be agreed between her and the doctors not to ventilate because the prognosis would be so poor |

By the time people need ventilators for Covid-19, they are probably going to die anyway.
It only extends life for a few more days. Still if somebody needs help breathing it is hard decision to refuse them ![]() |

The doctor hasn't given a solution, just pointed out the obvious, that ventilators don't treat the disease, just help in breathing. If a person comes in finding it hard to breathe, he's going to be put on a ventilator. When the Dr agrees there isn't a treatment available, what does he expect the medical staff to do?
As for the public, media, and the politicians talking about ventilators, that is circle jerk. If people are talking about it, media will. If media is talking about it, people will. Politicians will just go along cheering for more ventilators because that is what the public wants to hear. Or is there something better to say? |
