Both of whose figures are unverifiable and should therefore be ignored.

Not a pretty picture. Progression falling a very similar  pattern to France and Italy.

Week 13 registered an excess death rate above that which would be expected.

England only but given how the Rona has hit England it's of no surprise.

Excess death rate likely to be the trend for the foreseeable.

I expect we have some way to go to overtake China's actual number. Only worthwhile comparison is with other democracies.

And with similar populations such as France and Italy.

agreed Angoose - btw no idea about the masks thing in China - was just a jokey title bearing in mind Kraft's previous indiscretion.

Yet to add on your nursing home and non-hospital deaths like France did yesterday, almost 900 added. Spread seems to be rife in nursing homes.

thanks for the data leif...interesting to see if the trend continues in the next few weeks.

Looking at the figures though they are still well behind the 2017/2018 numbers, unless I'm reading it wrong?

Dangerous to look at a single week or even a single month.
For example, the England 7 Wales March figure for the last three years was as follows : 2017 48,664  2018 51,229  2019 43,946

There will be multiple factors at play within those figures.

I had a real bad dose of the flu 2nd week of Jan 2018...wiped me out til May.
Looking at that spike it looked a nasty one!!

It will be significant if it persists through April and may, months which wouldn't be historically associated with a spike in the death rate.

In fact, it's only now in April that the Rona is killing us off in droves?

Agreed leif...listening to the doc of doom on tv the other morning the "tsunami" of cases are just about to kick in.
Therefore if the experts are correct it should show up on these charts over the next few months.
