It's currently accepted that the proven cases is a fraction of the total.  Due to the fact it is. It's ****ing obvious how and it's understandable.
If you're a realist you understand why.
If you believe "anything a Tory touches is wrong and a lie as they are all the antichrist who want us all to die", your opinion may differ, but I've given up speaking to pathetic headcases.

Now, once testing properly gets going and the raw number shoot up, AND IT WILL, when we can do it more often, when they spike, will
1. The media and populace factor that in like intelligent adults as they should, or .
2. Go hysterical and act like they had the maths knowledge of a parnoid coke addled 2 year old who can't do sums?

I fear 2.
(Chit Chat will blame the increase on Trump supporting alien Lizards who want genocide of course, going off the back of a made up post with no providence written by a person with mental health issues.....)

Whiity quite clearly, early on said he feels it's around 1000 cases per deceased. Though the media and Tory haters will jump on anything they can to try and discredit the government.
Report Angoose March 28, 2020 2:58 PM GMT
There clearly are a significant number who will pounce on anything they can to tray and hammer the government over this.
Nothing will stop such individuals.

This is an extremely difficult situation, with a large body of officials doing incredible work behind the scenes to make things happen, work that the public never see.

However, as I've stated on many threads, the government isn't helping themselves by their defensive attitudes when questioned and, in a small number of cases, telling what are subsequently shown to be lies.

When individuals are exposed as liars, you cant then be subsequently surprised that future claims are viewed with suspicion.

So, just tell the truth.
We can appreciate and understand that it is a fast moving situation, people are working very hard, trying their absolute best.

So don't say that there are now 12,000 ventilators available to the NHS when it is later shown to be 8,000 with 4,000 on order.

Don't say that we didn't join the EU ventilator procurement program because an e-mail didn't arrive when it is subsequently shown that this is a bare faced lie, the UK having attended meetings on the subject.

Tell us the facts and tell us the truth.

Cider, I can quite happily, with as much confidence as I can have on anything that might ever happen, ever, state that once we start testing more widely, numbers will shoot up a large amount.

Mark my card now, I'm saying it :)

Our media and populace handling it responsibly? I can't see it. FFS I live in a country where stockpiling enougyh andrex to wipe your arse into 2030 is the final strategy when you fear the end of the world. Not the food you need to eat to **** in the first place.

They COULD start adding a "moron friendly" figure adjusted for test changes, but of course the morons would then start saying it's a conspiracy to mislead us about the true figures. Source: Obervation of scientifically illiterate morons, who abound. Normally quoting David Icke.

Any rational person will be aware of that Just Checking. It won't stop the haters weaponising it.

Angoose, all that really matters is that there's a ventilator for any patient that needs it. To my knowledge there's no examples as yet where that is not the case.

Part of the reason why things might get slightly misreported is the continual quest for a media 'gotcha' like the daily attack mob after each press conference. Not one of those turds have thanked any of them for their hard work, even the tory supporting rags.
Report Angoose March 28, 2020 3:15 PM GMT
So it's perfectly ok for a government minister to repeatedly lie about a subject Confused
Report Cider March 28, 2020 3:17 PM GMT
Even if their political allegiances wouldn't allow them to be polite, they could at least show some respect to the scientific and medical specialists, who must be under an unbelievable amount of stress.
Report Cider March 28, 2020 3:19 PM GMT
I'm not aware of the specific example you're referring to Angoose, there's probably a fair chance that it wasn't that particular minister's brief.

I've not seen every Hancock interview clearly, do you have any links to the ones he lied in. Or did you just read it on twatter.

The Op going completely over the top with his language as a form of grammatical effect (alien lizards ffs) whilst at the same timeas he attempts to ridicule the media ...
Not unreasonable to make your point without coming across a loon ... or are you! Devil

Cider, I wont go over the details again, but Hancock was clearly exposed as having lied.
If you're interested, it is well captured on Tuesday's (?) Newsnight.

That aside, I take your wider point, but the genie is well and truly out of the bottle, and it isn't going back.
There is too much media, but it isn't going to decrease.

The days of polite and respectful behaviour from all, is long gone.
If, indeed, it ever existed in the first place.

And, individuals tend to reap what they sow.
You behave in an unsavoury manner during "peacetime", get picked up on it, but fail to modify your behaviour.

Then don't be surprised if you get picked up on it during "wartime".

I'll go and find the particular example via the iPlayer, but let's not pretend that Hancock always tells the truth, the whole truth,  and nothing but the truth.

Cider you seem a very reasonable thinking person. I've tried it. You aren't cut out for chit chat. :)
TBF Angoose (who I think I've argued with before) is an intelligent reasonable guy. We might disagree but he's ok? :)
Unlike .... SOME!

"Part of the reason why things might get slightly misreported is the continual quest for a media 'gotcha' like the daily attack mob after each press conference". Correct.
I've given up on the TV as my hatred of obvious BBC bias got too much, I'm now License free, aerial gone to make sure. Try it.
More time to post **** on here :)

Manners come free. I detest social media and the erosion of common decency and respect it has brought to modern day life. Maybe I can bring some of that back to chit chat ;)

I always try to think of what it would be like in that person's position or shoes, either side of the political divide. No doubt Hancock has made some mistakes along the way, he is human after all. I personally don't doubt his 100% dedication to the effort to limit the damage of the virus to the country.

Unsurprisingly BBC Newsnight made a piece designed specifically to undermine the government. The 'lying' claim appears to rest on the Today show interview? The question was how many have been MADE. The answer was they got to 12,000. MADE is not the same as BOUGHT and available for use in hospitals, I assume there's some kind of verification process then the distribution to various hospitals, especially if they are being sourced internationally. I can buy a BMW car today, it may be made but it won't be on my drive with petrol in it ready to go (to essential shopping supplies).

I am very likely wrong here so someone may be able to explain..

Testing is only really useful at the start, if you want to stop it getting loose, or at the end, when you want to finish it off.

In the middle its only really useful if you have the type of country ready to follow trails and quarantine off large areas etc, so i dont see UK bothering anytime soon.

Not counting key workers who it makes sense to test more.
