Need some series to watch while we are trapped in.

Das Boot is on tonight, Sony Movies Classic channel Freeview 50 - 9.00 p.m.

A bit old but still relevant Teachers on CH4 from 2001-2004. A classic.

Is it easy to navigate to channels on a 'MAG' box?
My nephew bought me a firestick for xmas and I've no idea how to find the channels I want
He tried to show me but it looked like a lot of luck was needed.

It`s so straightforward, so obvious, I can`t overstate how easy it is to use. Someone once tried to sell me a Firestick but, just like you, I found it an incomprehensible, unusable nightmare.
For Christmas 2018, I bought boxes and a year`s subscription as presents for five family members who had each been paying Sky/BT up to £120 a month; as I knew they would, all five boxes were resubscribed to, with each now paying only £15 monthly for a far better product. It really is a no-brainer to anyone who`s seen the boxes in action.

The Crossing on Prime is quite good sci-fi series.

Not a series, but if you haven`t seen in before, The Hurricane starring Denzil Washington is a fabulous film. True story about Rubin "The Hurricane" Carter, the great Middleweight boxer. I will not spoil it by saying anymore.

Great ty Tim. Really helpful mate
I'll buy one

You really won`t regret it, you`ll probably end up as an unpaid, entirely unconnected to them, unofficial salesman, as I seem to have! Look forward to any feedback, confident it`ll be glowing, maybe convince other posters who still prefer, inexplicably, to give Sky a monthly what, up to £140? Maybe even more?
Enjoy your box!

Fringe.   Great sci-fi series                                                               The Borgias, Borgias and Medici.  Medieval machinations and great character actors(Jeremy Irons, John Doman, Richard Madden etc)galore in all 3.

IPlayer has put all the Spooks episodes back on.  Entertaining if you don't take it too seriously

Clydebank,

Love Minder too, the programme we all have Only Fools and Horses to be thankful for.

Arthur Daley puts Del boy to shame

I saw something called Drag Queen Dwarfs advertised today. Its going to be a long lockdown ffs.

Perhaps we deserve to die, why would anyone want to watch that.
What kind of Juan kerr conceived the idea to make it.

I loved Sooks when it firs5 came out, the few series. One day a mate came to stay and I was watching the latest episodes full of pretty girls, gleaming offices and unfeasible plot lines. My friend just said this is so unreal and us untrue to life. I reflected on it Nd I never watched an episid3 again but I have to say when I did watch it I really enjoyed it and it took me away

I forgot about DEADWOOD, watched that last year, Ian Mcshane was fooking brilliant in that.

After a lot of back and forth taking 10 years they've finally done a movie as a belated follow up.

A series I rarely see recommended on here is Boardwalk Empire.  I enjoyed it more than the Sopranos.

When it first came out it had so so reviews which put me off seeing it but I have just googled it again and some people are like me and think it was very good.  But beware I don't watch a lot of television, so what do I know!  I agree with Breaking Bad, The Wire, Das Boot and Life on Mars.  I haven't seen most of the list on here but can we please keep it going as it is very helpful to chit chatters like me who don't usually watch tv.

concur with boardwalk empire, excellent series.

ozark series 3 is back-started last night, just watched first episode. good stuff.

I am glad someone else thought it was good, mackem

I am starting a list of good series to watch and I think it is helpful if someone likes what you like as well, so I will be putting 'ozark' on the list!  I have read these kind of threads over the years but sometimes when I watch something recommended I don't agree.

keep forgetting about boardwalk empire tbh, like most  steve buscemi stuff. even get away with stephen graham being al capone

russian  belarus and lots of weird friendly games where I will take money off you as you watch

He might have just about pulled off Capone but I agree Brilliant Series.

Agree about stephen graham as Al Capone, it would have been an even better series if someone else had played the part.

I forgot, I thought the walking dead series was very good although I haven't seen the last couple of series.  I am trying just to see complete series so I decided to wait until the walking dead has finished and then I will see it from the beginning again until the end.

Watched the first walking dead today... s1 e1.. Not sure i'm gonna bother.

dexter isnt too bad, has peaks and troughs, maybe too many series.

agree with Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes, watching them again and had forgot how funny they are plus you get one of the great characters in Gene Hunt

Gene Hunt is seriously sexy, they don't make them like that anymore   Young men today seem to be effeminate by comparison.

Emitdeb, please give walking dead another try - if I remember it does take a while to get going.  It has to set the scene etc.  I am not a fan of zombie, horror films but I liked this.

I also forgot 'Game of Thrones', although I suspect chit chatters don't mention it as they think everyone has seen it.  But some, like me, don't watch televison much and when it came out it was not an immediate hit.  I loved it but lately I am getting fed up with them killing off all my favourites

I did the same thing as with walking dead I stopped watching it until it had ended and then watched it all again, although that was the plan   I saw up to season 7 and then was going to get season 8 from the library - I had ordered it, then the virus shut the library

Boardwalk Empire is excellent. However, Sopranos by far the daddy imho!

Thanks for the earlier replies guys, going to do the first few series of Curb having missed them, latest series just finished, simply the best comedy ever imo.

Quite ironic that the only thing that could possibly stop the production of the waling dead is the real thing...on and on and on it goes

Ray Donovan is well worth a try. I think fans of The sopranos would appreciate the mix of drama, violence and very dark humour. The acting is superb, especially the first 4 series, with John Voigt and james Woods (in series 1) portraying two of the most grotesquely funny characters you will ever see on TV.

The Shield was canny

13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi

2h 24m... True story. shoot'em up sort of movie..  gonna say 9.

Netflix.

Just went to rent a Movie from the sky store £15.99 ffs.

Ray Donovan is a good shout, and Jon Voight is fantastic in it.

No need to pay for movies these days, Acey.

Yeah I know Kenbo but that is not on.

£15.99 in times like this.. they should be ashamed!!

Simple gesture.. We're going through a National emergency.. 50% off all these products, for the people.

'Abducted in plain Sight' is a documentary that will have your jaw on the floor.

That's on Netflix ^^^^

Some of the films in sky store wont have cost £15.99 to make.

Just looked on Sky`s website, couldn`t be bothered checking for more proof, but the first three listed were; `Military Wives`, `The Invisible Man` and `Emma`, each available to rent for £15.99. All three are on the MAG box, for free; as is, no doubt, the fourth, fifth, sixth etc on Sky`s rental list. So, pay Sky £15.99 for ONE MOVIE(!!!), OR get yourself a MAG at £15 a month to enjoy any movie Sky can offer, PLUS all the other things I`ve listed upthread, AND have 99 pence left over?

Isn`t Betfair supposed to be `sharp minds`?

Watched "The Occupant" last night.  Netflix is increasingly shy.te these days, but that was a really enjoyable movie. A twisted plot line with a twisted ending.

this Mag box thing, does it work on any telly ?  and will it work on a laptop?   (I prefer watching things on my laptop cos I've got a projector I hook up to it, and I can cast it onto any wall)

do the russian and belorus plus friendlies   there's pics on some of these games on betfari

some very nice pickings and lots of dosh matched on some

They come with a HDMI lead, which will go straight into any tv set that`s been made in the last, well, I don`t know how long exactly, but yonks. I`ve never tried to use it on a laptop; just had a quick google search which says this is no problem, but please confirm it for yourself before buying one.

Cheers TBT.

You’re still paying £180 a year, Tim, for something that is readily available for free, or for much cheaper.

do tell SK

Guys can you put some links up for adequate hardware and providers?. please.

YouTube full of demos for the mag box, looks a little Kodi-ish to me

bbc scotland 9.30pm   fish and foe  - scottish fisher folk  salmon netters   tangling with  so CALLED ACTIVISTS

may be interesting

they used to do this at MUDEFORD dorset
we used to sit outside the pub drinking  WESSEX bitter  and their Golden retriever sat in the bows of the boat as they rowed across with the net

Today I binge watched the first series of London Kills, on iPlayer. It stars Sharon Small and Hugo Speer. It’s not your usual weekday afternoon drama. There are no laughs.  It’s very good. The new series starts tomorrow.

`Kodo-ish`? I`ve never used a Kodi, but I once saw one for the two or three seconds before I knew it wasn`t for me, with its blur of icons, visuals and suchlike. No, give me a straightforward layout, with a simple, obvious menu in front of me, pretty much identical to how Sky do it. So, I wasn`t quite sure how you found it Kodi-ish, until I remembered the box has what`s called `the inner portal`; no idea what it is, what it does, all far too Kodi-ish! BUT, you never go near that inner portal, the box arrives configured for whatever`s NOT the inner portal, with a Sky-like layout, menu etc, and you have to actively seek out that Kodi-ish inner portal. I`m sure it serves some purpose, some people presumably use it, but, if this is what you saw, fear not!

Here`s what I think you`re talking about, the dreaded inner portal

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nMZDq4DtVY

But here`s how it comes configured, much more like it!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sj0oidOmUtg

That looks like an easy set up, TBT. But that video is 3 years old. Is it still valid, the same maga box ?  Are there any recent demos which are easy to follow?  out the box, set up, plug an play etc?

I searched for demos in the last 12 months but all I can see are Kodi-ish instructions and lots of Google account setup stuff. I don't want Google anywhere near this.

Don`t know what you`re seeing with the Google stuff, but ignore it, Google are nowhere near me or my box.

Those links I posted were just the first ones I saw, didn`t occur to me they might be old, but that was probably because the boxes are still exactly the same, and what I was seeing was the very same as I see when I turn the box on, no difference at all.

Regarding set-up, don`t know where you`d be getting your box, or how your supplier operates; for me, I phone the man, he orders the box and I receive it a few days later in the post. The cardboard box has a barcode thingy with a serial number, which I call or whatsapp through to my man, who then activates the box. All of which is done in two or three minutes.

Open the cardboard box
Plug the HDMI cable provided into the box and into your tv
Either a USB cable to your router, or screw the wifi aerial provided into the box, and enter your wifi password, as prompted, using the remote.
Total time on this stage? Another two or three minutes, making it a grand total of about five minutes to set up and, as you can see, none of it is in any way technical or complicated. And all of that brings you straight to a Sky-style screen, NO Kodi-ishness at all.

Next? Well, sit back and enjoy! You might want to set some time aside for this, though, as you`re likely to spend quite a while going through it, seeing what`s on it but, for me, this was a pleasurable process, being delighted to find so much

I signed up to a package on the firestick in January. For the first fortnight the footy streams were poor, but after that they were perfect until lockdown. I can get loads of films including new cinema releases, all TV series, live TV, all bookies TV channels, racing channels, live porn channels, Sky Sports, BT Sports, BeIN, all 3pm kick offs on a Saturday, and plenty more. For that I paid £50 for a years subscription. I think it’s £90 if you haven’t got a firestick and they’ll send it out to you. Live sport is up to a minute behind live, so not great for in-running.

I can’t find a link for it though, or I would’ve took the wrath from one or two and posted it!

The funniest thing I've seen for a long time is 'What we do in the Shadows' on Iplayer. Basically a mockumentary like the Office but with Vampires. Based on a film which is on Amazon. Has a real cult following now..season 2 coming this month as well

That is good.  Nadja

Yep she definitely has that effect on you..very funny as well. Great casting all round in the show.

Not sure how other suppliers do it, but I get mine from someone I know locally; don`t know what areas he covers, or if there`s a network of agents. I`ll ask him and report back
I`m an old fogie non-techie, no idea what you mean by `hardware`?

tim...what is the picture quality like..HD ?

American Gods
The Deuce
Ozark
Legion

All great and current.

The Night of
The Girlfriend experience
Luck

Not quite so recent but fantastic nonetheless. The Night of especially.

nearly finished ozark series 3 , have to say been superb so far. some great acting.

Is Ozark good from the start? Was thinking of  giving it a go.

Yes I am loving Ozark series 3 right now watched it from the start and I would highly recommend it.

tim...what is the picture quality like..HD ?

My telly`s so old I don`t think it even has HD, it`s not important to me. The box does have `HD`, but I`ve never used it so can`t comment on the quality of it. There are user forums, they would know more.

The Virtues..grim but excellent

Anyone not seen Chernobyl yet...should do, incredible stuff.

I watched 'the occupant' on Netflix the other day and enjoyed it. Thanks.

Last man on earth -Amazon series about a pandemic which leaves one man alive ,

You can count on one hand the amount of series I have started but failed to finish, as I get bored quite easily, but I'm currently well into the third series of 'Last Man on Earth' and I have to admit, there have been quite a few LOL moments so far, not forgetting that each episode is a palatable 22 minutes long. I have no doubt I will finish them all now.

I should have said that you can count on one hand the amount of series I have actually watched to a conclusion.

Pleased that you now like the 'Walking Dead', Emitdeb   I have noticed before that quite a few series take a while to grow on you.

Not like 'Breaking Bad' - can anyone forget the first scene of the first series of it

cheers annie.

Gonna need something to keep me going.. Cant be waiting seven days to watch Better call Saul.

New movie called Uncut Gems on Netflix from today.

Yeah Last Man On Earth is probably one of the funniest series I have ever seen....Sky used to screen it but nowhere to be found now.

Anyone not seen Chernobyl yet...should do, incredible stuff.

Agree Chernobyl is excellent.

This well-reviewed book about the disaster is also available today on Kindle @ 99p

finished ozark series 3, great stuff.

I watch Coast most mornings now, very calming.

I agree with "the last man on earth". You will probably know if it's for you after the first episode.

It's on Amazon

Just finished the third and final series of The Deuce. Without giving owt away, has to be one of the best endings to a series I have seen. As said, just the 3 series to this and well worth a watch but word of warning, can be graphic. Not one to watch with the mother-in-law! The acting is brilliant and comes across amazingly authentic.

Don't know if already posted (especially for cricket fans) but The Test on amazon prime. About the Aus cricket teams over here last summer.

the americans, crime/drama/mystery its about two russian agents posing as an american couple complete with family and animal kingdom crime/drama centres on
a californian family whos excessive lifestyle is fuelled  by their  criminal  activities

s1 e4..  half way it was losing me, 3/4 resigned to giving up.. then right at the end....Hmmmmm.  dunno, I'll give it anther go, probably.

Couldn't take to the Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, Narco, Deadwood, Fargo, The Man in the High Castle, Breaking Bad, Sopranos, Orange is the new Black, in fact most of the ones that regularly get posted as the best ever.

I did like Homeland, The Americans and Chernobyl. From the past Teachers on Ch 4, which is still available, I thought was very funny.

I much prefer to watch documentaries than films or lengthy series.

I watched a couple last night...first one was about Joe Louis and his disgusting treatment by the stinking IRS!
What a decent man he was...and Max Schmeling too, whose kindness was overlooked in this.

For All Time

The other was by Aaron Russo called Freedom To Fascism which I revisited (after over a decade) and it's had a harder impact on me this time, in the light of this world-wide lockdown - it's quite frightening when history is put under the microscope.

The first hour is about the corrupt Federal Reserve but it does go into wider aspects of governmental tyranny.

I also liked The Wire and The shield.

If anyone missed  "Searching for Sugarman" its a fantastic documentary.

Free Solo

Just finished Ozark ..now that is how you finish a series

exactly quagmire, some finish

If anyone missed  "Searching for Sugarman" its a fantastic documentary.

Fully agree.

Seeing as political documentaries are being mentioned, Dinesh D`Souza`s award-winning `The Death Of A Nation` is truly enlightening, telling us how the global left have managed to perpetrate `The Big Lie`, somehow managing to convince the world that the KKK weren`t founded, funded and run by and for socialists, and that Hitler, the Nazis and their manifesto weren`t full-on socialists too. You don`t believe me? You think the right-wing are responsible for the KKK, and that Hitler was a right-winger? Exactly! That`s the strength of `The Big Lie`, it`s been so successful, everyone believes it until they know better! Want to believe it or not, want to deny it or not, it`s true either way.

Sorry, forgot about this, but have now spoken to him, and he said to give his number to anyone who wants it. Rather than have bf remove this post for spamming, probably better for anyone who might be interested to pm me for it; (don`t worry, I`m not a stalker, don`t want your number or anything at all, have no desire to get involved with anyone, don`t want your e-mail address!). I`m on the `classic` forum, never going near the `new`, so if you do pm me, please alert me to it on here; otherwise, I`ll never see it.
