Went out for a wander earlier to check on my parents and wandered in to the local LIDL store on my way back.

The very quiet car park was a sign of what I was to find inside.
The recent phenomenon of bare shelves was still in evidence, but there was also a distinct lack of shoppers.

An employee confirmed that it had been like that all day.

So, were there no shoppers as they had overbought last week in the panic surge?
Or did they stay at home as they expect the shelves to be bare?

Two things in particular struck me.

If customers were so sparse today, why so many bare shelves?
Doesn’t tally with the robust supply chain claims.

A lot of fresh fruit and vegetables are going to rot in stores across the country.

Before I got double spaced I was saying about Moisok that he uses words frequently on here as if to suggest he thinks he is somehow better and superior to the typical forumite on here

If you order food online to be delivered.

Why should many of the items be missing if there are no shortages?

Unless they make up the orders straight after the store closes and fill orders directly from the shelves.

With orders placed many days before delivery, either the supermarkets couldn't care less about filling orders, or there are shortages!

My daughter tells me she went to Sainsbury's only yesterday (2pm) and the car park was almost deserted. She went inside and again, very few people around. When I questioned the stock she told me that there were gaps, but most things were available still.

Mrs just went to lidl following this thread and can confirm very quiet and whilst they are out of the obvious, toilet rolls, stella and water, there is plenty there to buy. Just one till on though and long q's albeit with the self distancing taking place.

we have essentially flattened the curve. a couple of days of madness where everybody is out shopping. then why are you going shopping again when you've bought 4 times the amount you'd usually buy? and when you run out of weetabix you can use the toilet rolls you've hoarded along with some water for a tasty breakfast

I read an article yesterday that Italy began panic buying until people got to grips with the fact that didn't need to

A Sky News report from Lombardy showed the inside of a supermarket and the shelves were business as usual.
Different mentality at play more than likely.
