Then there is the NHS this Christmas, birth rates will soar. will struggle to cope.

I think your mothers neighbour needs to realise the seriousness of this virus, short term pain is very little in the scheme of things, you get this virus aged above 60 then i dont fancy your chances.

I suggested everyone has a 2m stick so they can hit anyone that infringe, or a bubble suit 1m wide like the ones in its a knockout, they didnt take my suggestions well.

Most people can keep in touch through skype, whats app, messenger etc, you really don't need to visit. If you are incubating the virus it may not show for a few days so you may inadvertantly give it to your mother who may not fight it off as easily as you may be able to do, that is the whole point of it. You can talk to her everyday and give her a virtual hug and kiss without potentially harming her. You know it makes sense.

The biggest reason why this is a nonsense is because this is half baked lockdown, you could maybe understand the logic if this was a Total Lockdown as if we were being hit by the Black Death, but this is essentially a partial lockdown which is like being a bit pregnant, you either are in lockdown or your not, you're either pregnant or your not.

Many School children of key workers all over the country are still going to school, many teachers still there to teach them. Small children in particular will be impossible to keep from each other, they have an urge to play games with each other and interact.

Everyone is going to the supermarkets, it is not possible to keep 2 meters apart at all time, in any given aisle you are going to pass people up and down the whole way round. Most of the till operators are of a certain age as well. Then there are the trollies, people are not going to be wiping down the trollies after every use, some will, most wont.

Key workers are still hefty in numbers and on public transport will again come into contact with each other - many of these key workers will go home to relatives who do indeed have underlying health issues.

Exercising once a day, literally impossible to enforce and prove, do you really think youngsters or those criminally minded will adhere to this sort of thing, they'll do as they please especially during warmer days.

Parks remaining open to exercise - people will be breathing in and out a lot more in moving at speed doing so followed by others, who then all go home to their families.

Staying at home so much will create many problems for the NHS.

I think the best way forward is as said, attack rather than defence, the 1.5 million maybe stay at home for a set period of time, those with no known underlying health issues carry on as normal, those that have to come home to those that have health issues, take normal precautions, washed hands, wear face masks when in same room.

That has to better than this, there's no chance this lasts for 3 weeks, at least I'm pretty sure that's what the governments plan is, in their minds this could last several months.

There are six adults and one little girl living in my hamlet (including the neighbour in question), and every one of them is younger than me, but every one of them bar me is also disgustingly obese. The hamlet also boasts five cars (theirs) and one bicycle (mine). But evidently I'm the one who's going to be in need of help.

People already on treatment for cancer and other illnesses, are seeing treatment interrupted or discontinued because the hospitals are going to be full of people infected by selfish types.

They're a lovely couple, who went out of their way to help with phoning the vet's when my old dog came down with vestibular syndrome late one at night (I'm deaf, so couldn't phone myself). And I've told them to ask if there's anything they might need in the weeks ahead from my stash (I accumulated 4 months of food, medicines, toiletries and dog food for this back in Jan/Feb - a lot of cycling up Bishops Hull Hill to get that lot home).

But I'm 58 FFS. Fifty-eight!

Fair point, wof. Perhaps it's the other way round. It's precisely because I don't have to go to the shops any more that I don't feel vulnerable.

Why did I accumulate it in the first place? Because when you're relying on the Chinese Communist Party for data on what was being unleashed, there was no way of knowing who was going to be particularly vulnerable. Amusingly that 2014 article describes the 'Spanish' flu as 'The Last of the Great Plagues'.

Quite apart from the obvious risk of transmitting the bug to his dear old Mum, the OP seems to have missed the fact that if we don’t comply with the new directives, harsher ones will follow.
No doubt he will be at the forefront squealing about his civil liberties being taken away when we have ration books and movement permits.
Seems to me that the Govt’s biggest mistake here is to underestimate the stupidity of its people. It's more an anti-Chinese Communist Party agenda right now. But an antipathy to people who for centuries have revelled in animals being slaughtered haphazardly and barbarically in front of their eyes, with all the viral consequences of the lack of hygiene and supervision, also has a lot to do with it.
