4 Portsmouth footballers were tested today.

We really need to the numbers of tests.
The people i know who are self isolating are not being tested. |

It's on the BBC website. I think it was around 50,000 when I looked the other day.

As of 9am on 21 March 2020, 72,818 people have been tested in the UK, of which 67,800 were confirmed negative and 5,018 were confirmed positive.
As of 9am, 233 patients in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have died. |

Correct - I just checked.

“As of 9am on 19 March 2020, 64,621 people have been tested in the UK, of which 61,352 were confirmed negative and 3,269 were confirmed positive.”

So around 93% of those tested have tested negative, and surely those being tested are those thought most likely to have contracted the virus through contact tracing, presenting with symptoms, being in hospital?
|
|
By:
"Hard to see that - as it would appear from other countries 'general testing' that around 90% test Negative... so that equates to 500,000 Tests having taken place in the UK."
Is flawed as you are presuming that the decision to test is the same. If we are only testing people who have a significant symptom, and THEY are testing as many people as possible, you'll get wildly different results. Secondly you're out by a factor of 10, 90% negative and 5000 cases would be 50,000. But to answer your question, it's been answered today (or yesteday) https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/03/20/coronavirus-uk-testing-people-tested/ "More than 50,000 people have now been tested for coronavirus in the UK, and fresh efforts are being made to widen the net." "Public Health England has previously said it has the capacity for 4,000 tests a day, but the health service has struggled to top 2,000 a day on average." "In the UK, just 5% of tests have been positive." |

There hasn't really been much information on the actual testing. Who carries out the tests? Paramedics when they visit?
There is an obvious suspicion that 'celebrities' like Portsmouth footballers somehow jump the queue. |
|
By:
thanks, so 1 in 12 positive.
|
|
By:
I don't think paramedics carry out tests

It's common knowledge that you can get a private test done for £375 |
|
By:
There isn't nearly enough info on hospital admissions and ICU beds available and ventilators etc ..
|
|
By:
Thanks to those who have posted the figures - But as other posters have added and indicated - it does not present a picture of categories - and, as differentdrum posts ...
'Who carries out the tests'? .... I would add - and where? |
|
By:
didnt know about that private test for 375£ , i agree
|
|
By:
stop asking awkward questions ho ho ho
|
|
By:
what a good gesture it would be by these rich celebraties etc to each pay for say 50 key workers to be tested,

I've read that while it might not kill you, it might might leave some degree of permanent (or semi) damage to your lungs. Which you'd understand why if you watched the video I posted last night. So I'd see why owners of assets like multi million pound sportsmen might pay particular attention and pay top dollar, it would be pretty reckless of them not to. Wouldn't surprise me if their insurers are also being d1ckish about it!

Any private health organisation selling test kits should be removed from NHS list to carry out NHS treatments.

What a ridiculous attitude. |

How many I wonder have been tested more than once?
|

just checking, it is similar to sars and a long term study of about 70 medical staff infected with sars in hong kong from 2003-2018 found long term lung damage. (i have lost the relevant article).
x rays of the lungs of patients who go home dont look great apparently. |
|
By:
Yea it apparently destroys the lining of the lungs which is why when it's gone it lets bacteria etc walk straight in. Obviously having the lining of your lungs desroyed could lead to heavy scarring and so on. Not nice to think about. I don't want my lungs looking like my liver

The number of people who have died after testing positive for coronavirus in Scotland has risen to 10 - the country's 416 confirmed positive cases was described as a "significant underestimate"
So we have a 1/40 Ratio , I would say More likely 4000 Cases if not more ,So 1 in 400 ![]() We have lunatics shouting about 20 % death rates |

How accurate are these test kits? Who tested the test? I heard they are still not 100% sure which animal transmitted the disease in the first place.
