The German government is trying to fight off what it sees as an aggressive takeover bid by the US, the broadsheet Die Welt reports, citing German government circles. The US president had offered the Tübingen-based biopharmaceutical company CureVac “large sums of money” to gain exclusive access to their work, wrote Die Welt. According to an anonymous source quoted in the newspaper, Trump was doing everything to secure a vaccine against the coronavirus for the US, “but for the US only”. |

Merkel reportedly offered the same German company money for exclusive rights to the vaccine before Trump did but no outrage or even headlines about it. That is good leadership imo, looking after the only people you are responsible for. There will not be enough vaccine for everyone initially. Would you not want or even expect that from your leader? His job is to save as many Americans as he can, same with any leader.
And the Trump reports called it a bribe too. You don't bribe someone by offering to buy something from them legitimately and at arms length. You buy something at a massive overvalue because the payment is really not related to the product you are buying at all and is a payment for something else. |

^^there are no reports that merkel tried to get the company to produce the vaccine exclusively for germany, only that they offered money to thwart the trump effort, so why should she be berated? btw merkel and her party are centre right not left wing.
Anyway as I said the same posters who post bigoted bile day and night on this forum were also posting that this virus was nothing and a hoax, so I think it's obvious who the "rabid" ones are. |
