The fact that even John Peel never once played their records (as far as I'm aware) is the main reason for their obscurity. The main reason for Peel not playing their records was presumably that the records were ridiculously bad, and too many of their attempts to 'shock' were just plain embarrassing.

This was the time when the National Front was a genuine threat. To have a bunch of privileged art-schoolers 'ironically' using Nazi imagery in place of inspiration and talent wasn't worth the electricity.

I see the wiki entry tries to hitch them to Cabaret Voltaire, which hugely flatters them. Peel played Cab Voltaire a lot, had loads of sessions by them, and they really were worth listening to.

Screaming...I went to a few Throbbing Gristle Gigs circa 1980... it was an Experience.. didn't much like the Noise... but the atmosphere at the gigs was good but very poncey.. they were very influential in the northern music scene ... Clock dva.. human league..etc  … plenty of punk bands used the swastika .. mostly as a rebellious  thing... siousxie sue used it more then most and she is a 4 be 2....some people on this forum wished they still had THROBBING GRISTLE Laugh it takes my blue boy half hour to kick in ..Wink

The BBC's website obituary is even more laughably embarrassing. Another exquisite piece of nonsense for the "there are lots more than two genders" cretins to lap up. All punctuation and pronouns doubtless checked by the Correctness Committee prior to publication.
