ignore the all black bit...that's what he fantasised

could be that being charged with something else ( trial pending ) or/and also apparently quirk in the nz law there where they can't be named for 2 years after a conviction to facilitate rehabilitation.

That 2 year rule is interesting;hadn't heard of it before ;but obviously only affects NZ press/broadcasters. The fact that the bloke's photo and name is shown in the Metro and presumably other papers over here and the rest of the world means that it's in the open so rather pointless for the main tv channels in this country to pretend otherwise.

agree, seems in this case pretty pointless exercise

Even the Judger did not name him when passing sentence. Some countries believe in telling the media nothing if they can. I have sympathy for that approach but not for a convicted murderer. 17 years is apparently a long sentence there!

whatever do gooders might think you can't rehabilitate psychopaths or terrorists for that matter. they are what they are

Just said on LBC: "...cannot be named under New Zealand law"

The law is an Ass, far too interested in protecting the murdering scumbags than protecting society from them.

The Evening Standard (edited by George Osborne iirc) names him:
https://www.standard.co.uk/news/crime/grace-millane-killer-new-zealand-guilty-a4293601.html Tbh I am not really sure what difference it makes either way. She's still dead. RIP, Grace Millane. |
