Just started London Live

A film about Francis Bacon a great artist, gay and a masochist....
He found male lovers to beat him up...but he in this film, he destroys one of them played by Daniel Craig, probably because he loved Bacon.

Bacon's pictures are disturbing like he himself, but he was a great artist

You are not alone.

I have a copy of this film, and on Blu Ray as it happens. Sold to me by some desperate market trader for £1 a few years ago.

There are actually much better documentaries out there about Bacon. This was a poor film, and I'm relieved to be just a quid down on the deal.

I like his screaming pope. Most of his work was grotesque and not to my taste. As for his private life, I would rather not know.

I watched the documentary alun

I think it was the women in Bacon's life who believed in him, in his art, most men mistreated hmi, which is what he wanted

I admit I am addicted to his paintings FoinavonBlush

so powerful

His private life, well it does not matter, if one can paint like him

He probably suffered near the end like most gays, when their looks go, they fear the competition of younger men

I was hoping to see a few more responses to this thread. As Grayson Perry once said, you don't have to be a transvestite potter to enjoy art.
Brave of you to admit it Uble, his paintings wouldn't match the wallpaper in my sitting room.

so many issues here but at my advanced age I can say I am doing ok

it is difficult, and being in the community, as they call it I find it very hard to understand
why some get so up tight about it all

part of course is you are not accepted by the general public and their mores

but secretly a lot of men 'do'  even though they are straight (ish)

the sex can be extraordinary for starters

however  -  canaries v pool - I am in financial heaven

From the way Uble has described him, Bacon's life seems to have been anything but gay in the original meaning of the word.
Perhaps a lot of men do "do" nowt so strange as folk. Inconceivable to me but there you go.
Why should anyone want to keep a partner if he/she is unhappy? There is someone for everyone out there.

My bet is showing 20% down in running, not giving up yet although you have to accept the occasional reverse.

Liverpool on the nose for me. A potential 39% return (less com) was good enough for me.

I got that from another film, I have forgotten which

but if a man is playing a female role he needs to look good I would have thought

so he must worry as he gets older as of course women do when they get older?????

All's well that ends well. I got a 20% return, you probably did better, Mo. Not very comfortable at times though.
I don't know your community, but I do know gay couples who have stayed together for a very long time and into old age. No different to the rest of us.

I just mislike people who do not know the community making all sorts of pronouncements about something they know nothing about.

yes a very satisfying two days

a note

last three games  I arbed etc  -    1  0 ,    1  - 2,   and   1  0   hmmmmm

going to dutch some correct scores today too in line with above results but I think   spurs and arsenal games may produce more

Strange I mentioned the lack of 0-0 the other day and like London buses, three or more came along together. Cry I've started backing the draw and cashing out any prophets. Risk getting stung hoping that an early goal gets cancelled out with an equaliser but so far so good. As you once said, only Liverpool are showing any reliability.

I had hoped this thread would be about Bacon's art rather than his sexual tendencies but not to be. No need to be harsh on people's misconceptions as they are widespread. People will listen to information if presented in the right way. One partner of a gay couple I know has written a book about her life story. It's on Amazon if anyone is interested.

moisock

No I like his pictures..that is what I judge him for

He is the only British/Irish Artist ever to be shown in the Louvre ..

because he is that highly rated by Art experts

If Turner had been around when they gave these exhibitions he would probably also have got in, but nobody else????

His sex life baffles me tbh, why would anyone want to be beaten up for sex?????

it adds a bit to his image I think, that is just my own opinion
