In a pub talking to a group of 5 friends all from different back grounds and jobs.

I was the only one who is for a Royal Head. The others cannot wait for them to be abolished like other countries.

I can't print what they said about the British Empire. Very angry how they enslaved other countries.

Only on very rare occasions do pub conversations have any validity in the cold light of day.

We can't afford both a monarchy and prisons full of imported criminals.

When I was at college I spoke to an Indian friend about the Empire.  He said that without the Empire there'd be no cricket and that would be unthinkable. Laugh

So will we have a president instead? Candidates might include Boris, Corbyn, David Attenborough, Bercow or Greta Thunberg. (she would live for a lot longer than the others and if we can import a monarchy we can import a president.

end is nigh

divorces , sex cases , abdications , gold pianos

hardly an example , why should we pay for them to enjoy a lavish lifestyle when so many are suffering

Because the idea of two guys meeting in the street and one being forced to call the other one your highness based on nothing more than who his parents are is ridiculous. Just blindly accepting something because we've done it for a long time only works if you're a sheep.

I support a Monarchy

I like the model used by the French and Russians best

Sadly despite turbulence after the death of our beloved Queen and a short reign by nincompoop Charlie I am pretty sure the Monarchy will survive for the foreseeable future

I can't imagine that any political party would have getting rid of the monarchy in their manifesto. Too risky imo.

the royal family work hard, they usually have 100's of engagements to do every year as part of their royal duties, their worth is immeasurable to the economy and the traditions of great britain.

I would vote for the monarchy ahead of any UK citizen who might stand as "President". Charles may not be everyone's cup of tea but he was warning about sustainability and climate change decades before any politician took any interest. William, with an able helper in Kate, seems well capable of getting their views across and they chime with the population much more than any of the existing political parties do. The trappings of monarchy are a sideshow but they do bring in billions of tourist dollars. Would you pay to see round M. Macron or Ms Merkel's official residence?

I'm very angry with the Scandinavians, French and the Italians.

Religion is the great imposter and royalty is it's baby.  I don't agree with either, but I'd far sooner rid the world of religion.  Royalty in the modern world is now almost entirely a ceremonial tradition that brings tourism, religion brings ridiculous beliefs and conflict.

I am wondering how many people who only got 2 A-Levels have been recruited by the Army to be trained as Helicopter Pilots?

Monarchy has a wonderful tradition and should be seen by all low levels crims as what can be achieved by robbery with extreme violence.

The Queen without doubt is OG#1.

Her soldiers have uniforms and wear boots not shiny tracksuits and trainers

The usual suspects will of course be dothing their caps and tugging their fore locks in awe to these robber barrons
