Last month was the warmest January on record globally, while in Europe temperatures were a balmy three degrees Celsius above the average January from 1981 to 2010, the European Union's climate monitoring system reported Tuesday.

final proof I guess regarding recent debate here , terry had frost while others were pruning roses but there is NO DENYING THE FACTS

terry ,climate boffins some years ago (10-12) predicted that by 2018  east anglia would take on more of a south west england climate  ...that is very mild winters  and cooler summers ,and also a bit cloudier .

UK generally cloudier summers and milder winters

They also said places like Paris with an oceanic climate similar to London  would take on a more semi- meditteranean type climate ,with the near continent getting sunnier hotter summers .

they were correct on the  lot ...this is why we are getting cloudier summers and Paris/Bonn/Frankfurt/Warsaw etc are getting hotter summers    ...climate change

The Himalayan Mountains are home to the highest peak in Mount Everest at 29,029 feet, but also to the third largest deposit of ice and snow in the world, after Antarctica and the Arctic. Now the first complete study of this remote region reveals that its glaciers lost billions of tons of ice—equivalent to more than a vertical foot and half of ice each year—from 2000 to 2016.

That’s double the amount of melting that took place from 1975 to 2000, revealing that the ice loss is accelerating with rising temperatures. It’s also threatening water supplies for hundreds of millions of people downstream across much of Asia.

How silly.

Of course the climate is 'changing'.

I do not think anyone is disputing that the climate is forever changing.

We have different seasons. We have different natural events. We have massive population growth and immigration to the global north cities.

And because the climate is 'changing' (as it always has) the elites are cashing in.

Who is profiting from the electric car bubble? Who is profiting from the carbon tax credits? Are these same people darting around the world in private jets?

It is interesting how people approach this.

They are told the climate is 'warming' and then it is 'changing' and are willing to 20% extra on their energy bills to counter it - even if it means putting money into billionaire private jet using peoples' pockets.

At the same these people seem completely unconcerned that the population of many countries in Africa (and else where) will double in the next 50 years. If climate change really is man made why is there no concern from the radical left climate change cheerleaders about population growth?

The argument is whether man is the cause of climate change.

There seems to be an acceptance by many countries based on little evidence that he is, while the largest countries in the world producing the most emissions do not agree.

So the efforts of the UK to eliminate its emissions, which only amount to 1-2% of the world's total is futile.

plenty of evidence that the planet is warming.
Plenty of evidence that chemical composition of the atmosphere is changing (more CO2 )
Plenty of evidence humans are producing CO2
Plenty of evidence that certain gases in atmosphere effect the amount of heat which "escapes" into space & how much "reflected" back towards the planet.

&
Just about zero evidence that there is some other explanation  (I.e. Orbit of Earth? , distance from Sun changed, change in volcanic activity? Planet hit by Astroid? Continents moved in past 200 years? )

Report detraveller • February 6, 2020 9:14 PM GMT
I know. That is why i've been saying the debate here and everywhere else is useless. You want to do something for the environment, no one is stopping you. You want to go zero fossil fuels, you're up against very powerful people. You want people to pay another tax so you can help the planet, you can go fk yourself.

I get that one part of the solution is to get people to give up their old habits(like fossil fuels). But the same people who are preaching this are conveniently ignoring factors bigger than fossil fuels, simply because working on those factors(such as India/China) will not bring them any money. And they would obviously not dare preach it to them in the first place.

The debate is not useless. The first thing that has to happen is for people to recognise the problem much in the same way that plastic has finally been seem to be harmful. And before that smoking. Only then will useful progress be made.
Report detraveller • February 6, 2020 9:34 PM GMT
Did people have to pay a plastic tax when they realized how harmful it was? I don't think so. All that happened was businesses started using paper products with the general trend of using environment friendly products. Businesses not using them were frowned upon.

My only problem is why we have to pay a carbon tax. No one is stopping anyone from creating better fossil fuel alternatives and driving them out of business. The only talk is neutralizing emissions or zero emissions, which is never going to happen. The time Greta has given us to turn thing around is not enough to go to zero emissions. So why does she preach it?
Report Charlie • February 6, 2020 9:39 PM GMT
There is more than one argument there. The first is to accept climate change is happening or not. The second is to do something about it or just ignore it. People did have to pay a plastic tax in the simplest form of having to pay 5p for a plastic shopping bag.
Report detraveller • February 6, 2020 9:42 PM GMT
Exactly. If you have a problem with diesel cars, tax the diesel car manufacturers. They will then pass it on to the customers who will know that if they want a diesel car, they need to pay the tax. The public will eventually pay.

But if you come to me asking for a 100 bucks from my pay cheque every month because Diesel is bad for the planet, do you really think i'll give you the money?

If you tax me, car manufacturers will still make diesel cars and continue polluting the planet.
If you tax them, they will have to tell their customers to pay more, but the customers have the choice to not buy the car.

I think there's a clear difference there.

Report detraveller • February 6, 2020 9:57 PM GMT
Yes you can do that too. I don't have a problem with that.

My point is simply that me paying more tax so that someone can use that money to offset the effects of diesel cars isn't a solution. Even if I stopped using diesel, I would still be paying the tax. Meanwhile neither the price of diesel nor diesel cars is feeling the heat from this while I dish out my hard earned money. Do you really not see the problem here?

The answer is - f'ck all.

And that's even if we give the greenhouse gas effect brigade the benefit of the doubt.

Cut down on pollution yes, give us clean air to breath - absolutely.

It's not as simple as you make it sound and there is many diff types of credits, I can se no listings on any regulated bona fide exchange that is covered by fca,  your post is misleading and appears fake, got a link to back it up, just spent 10 mins doing basic research and ask you to supply a link to your claims of CC's being a leading investment and them being able to produce profit to investers, or having increased by x5.
