Streatham to me growing up meant going to the swimming pool, watching the Streatham Redskins play ice hockey and later in life going to "The Cat's Whiskers" nightclub. I never go anywhere near it now though and haven't for 20 odd years, it's a bit of a cruddy place to be honest.

Same here Slippy. How's everything going with you?
And don't forget the choice of two cinemas about 200 yards from each other - Odeon and ABC. My parents met each other in the Cat's Whiskers. |

I'm very well J_M, thank you for asking, all is grand with me and mine and hope you are in good form also.
I had my first proper date as a 13 year old in the Streatham Odeon in 1980, it was "Airplane!" that we saw and we were both laughing our heads off throughout and I treated her to a Wimpy meal afterwards which was opposite the cinema, I think it is still there but not certain about. I had my first full on snog that day, happy times! I used to go to The Cat's Whiskers maybe twice a month but I got bored of that environment when I bought my first greyhound and Saturday nights it was always Catford dogs and back to the Crown And Greyhound in the Village for a few couple of last order pints afterwards. |

Back in the day, the worst thing about the place was having to go through Brixton on the bus coming back from taahn.
