In too deep to turn back. Was this all tory then? Seems to be going on that long, wouldn't be surprised if it stretched back to Labour or Lib Dem coalition.

Same route, but build a canal instead - SS2. Houseboats in various basins along the way to alleviate the housing shortage, more opportunity to holiday on the waterways of the UK, jobs for boatbuilders, canal can be built by prisoners who would like to earn some remission.

It's travel for the rich.

They'll build HS2, no one will be able afford to use it except civil servants, business people and the rich, so it will lose money.
Next thing they'll be building stations all along the route to attract more customers, and the  expense of building a track for high speed travel will have been wasted.
