I've been drinking Earl Grey for a while now, made with loose leaves, and , not using milk, I can't believe the amount of crap swirling around in bottom of my mug when I get to the last few drops. Yes of course I use a tea-strainer, I suppose that what I'm seeing is minute particles of dust from the dried leaves. I really don't want to look into filters unless there's a re-usable that I can buy. Any " SERIOUS " suggestions please?

If you are an officianardo I might suggest you get your tea directly from the plantation in a vacuum sealed bag. You will probably get better fresher tea and not the stuff they send to the mass market.

Those old plantation owners have kids who went to University to study I.T. They are smart and have set up websites to sell their tea packed in vacuum sealed bags directly to people all over the world in the post. You won't get cutting room floor dregs. I was given a speciality tea box with 9 or so different tea's from Sri Lanka, India and China from Fortnum and Mason's. Not a spec of dust. The tea was clean and pure. I used spring water too not chalk water that we get from the tap in the Sooth.

Back in the day the dust/sweepings were kept for the local poor folk, then someone invented teabags. Cheap ones contain lots of dust, which is why the tea colours up so quickly.

I'm not a connoisseur, I'd just like to find some way of drinking my Twinings EG with the sweepings filtered out. If I was having milk with it I wouldn't know and it wouldn't matter. It doesn't look nice that's all. Would be nice to drink it out of a glass cup and see clear liquid.

Shake em in a food strainer with an appropriate sized mesh.

you can line your tea strainer with some kitchen roll, if you are not in a hurry or use some coffee filter paper |

Try using a teapot instead of brewing in a mug.
