The latest effort by the BBC on the Dickens masterpiece shown in three parts over Christmas. Has been turned into a pretty dismal affair, despite its interesting deviations from the original story
I think they chose the wrong actress to play the part of Bob Cratchit's wife. I couldn't take to her at all. I didn't think much of the actor who played the leading roll either. Poor casting by the BBC. I certainly won't watch it again when the BBC subjects us to the inevitable repeats. |

I would not trust the BBC to take any story and not either dumb it down or add their version of social commentary to regardless of the era the story belonged to.
I have just read A Christmas Carol and don't feel any version reflects the story accurately. Alistair Sim was terrific as ws Scrooge McDuck |

you kneed a bit more action with a gun toting female to make it a lot less sexist and as for the dreadful patrimony, class snobbery and portrayal of the poor I cried myself to sleep at the thought of what the guardian will say tomorrow |

All about the poverty of peoples' expectations, Scrooge's nephew's cohort bought up those freeholds long ago. Seems there was far more social mobility in Dickens' day then there is now. |
