A bloke should always remove his hat on entering a building, and keep it off until leaving said building. This is an invariable rule.

Even stranger is anyone bothering what other men wear unless it's a closet transvetite taking an interest in fashion like the OP may be. What about men that tie their shoe laces up in a particular fashion ?

the only time it's appropriate to wear a hat of any kind is if you are:

- an attractive woman at a horse racing event
- a pitcher in baseball
- a woman at a wedding
- a widow or a mother at a funeral
- a fat mexican man at a football world cup
- a cowboy in a rodeo
- a surgeon in theatre
- a dentist
- a snowboarding cool dude wearing a beanie

times it is absolutely not appropriate:
- white european males in any other context than above
- fat and/or ugly women

- a celebrity hiding from paparazzi is also acceptable

i was going to mention war as well - if you're fighting in war it is acceptable to wear a hat

At this time of year, I wear a hat indoors, several layers of clothing, and that's how I go to bed. Why not?

Who gives a toss? If you want to wear a hat then go for it. It's no one else's business what you wear.

Granted it is none of anyone else’s business, if any one wants to look and act like a classless nerk then they should be allowed to do so and I, for one, defend their right to do so.

Nicely put RC. I beg to differ on one point however. 'Look' and 'act are two separate things. Wearing a hat may make you look like a classless nerk,in your opinion,but 'act' is another matter. You can only be judged on how you act by how you act not by what is perched on top of your noggin.

One of of the funniest lines I heard about hat wearing, I can’t remember who said it, was to somebody, perhaps not wearing a hat ‘quite correctly, was ... are you wearing that hat or just walking underneath it?

I remember a bloke stood at a bus stop, around the same time every morning in the depths of winter along my route to work.

Always wearing a heavy overcoat, scarf and gloves, shuffling about trying to keep warm, but nothing on his bald head.

Every day I saw him it made me smile.
