I like "Walnut Whips", which rarely taste better than at Christmas. Today I bought a box of them.

Or rather, I didn't. What I have bought instead is either the most exciting chocolatey innovation in 200 years, or the most Corbyning, Abbotting, Sarkaring HELL of an inadequate product in living memory. You see, I have inadvertently bought a product called 'WHIP'. On closer inspection, they are basically Walnut Whips without the Walnuts.

Well done then to the MegaBrain who dreamed up this little beauty, presumably to appeal to customers who might possibly suffer disorders from eating nuts. In fact I'd love to have been a fly on the wall of the boardroom where this breakthrough in Confectionery was green-lighted.

So CAVEAT EMPTOR. IN fact be as CAVEAT as you've ever hitherto been EMPTOR.

Please remember those who will have to go without Walnut Whips in your Christmas Prayers.

A Happy and Peaceful Christmas to you all, except for the ones who'll be tucking into MY Walnut Whips.

Buy a packet of shelled walnuts and stick then on top with a bit of melted chocolate.

I did a similar thing. Bought a whip from M&S instead of S&M.

Old news - This was shock/horror in mid 2017.  Walnuts Whips (with a Walnut bit on the top) still happily still available.  Mind you the one with the bit of walnut inside the base remains unavailable.

They removed the walnut in 2017

The faltering value of sterling, rising transport costs, and poor crops in some walnut-growing regions pushed up the price of walnuts in Britain by about 20% in 2017

The walnut is basically the bit of purgatory you have to endure before the redemption of the whipped sugar gloop underneath. It stands as a metaphor for the human condition.

It is akin to the gherkin on a burger or the 'cherry' on a Bakewell.

Talking of that banana ... how long had it been up there? Could have been a bit ripe but the geezer looked like he tucked into it.
And as for the walnut whips, it sounds like a shocking piece of quality control.
