I stocked up with bags of Lidl 19p sprouts, parsnips and carrots last Christmas, and they lasted fine, with no problems.
Same offers this year. |

my son when at uni used to work in his spare time in a cake factory told me ,they would often start a run of cakes for example for a leading supermarkets "finest " after say 3 hours or so of the cakes being loaded into the tescos finest packets the manager/supervisor would stop the machines and change the packaging to "value range " and start the production line up again .......same cakes different prices and packaging .

Aldi veg doesn't last as long as Tesco.

I took advantage of their 19p spuds to make a batch of leek and potato soup. The 19p sprouts have been blanched and frozen.

Help the homeless, the missus makes tasty soup from all the cheap veg available, perhaps we need to teach people to feed themselves better instead of ordering fast foods.

Was in hospital and on the menu was 'haricot bean and tomato soup'. You've guessed it, was a watered down tin of baked beans.

This. I had to do cooking from 1996 to 1999 but it was always cakes. Teach children how to select ripe vegetables. How to cook them. How to plan a healthy dinner with adequate amounts of protein, carbs and vegetables. Teach them how to cook a proper dinner instead of resorting to ready meals and takeaways. There's lots of cooking on TV but it's always fancy shít that can be intimidating. Normal cooking doesn't have to be difficult. |

Exactly what Durex do with their condoms. |

I simply buy the freshest regardless of price.
If it's in a packet I buy the one with the longest date. |

Twenty-nine pence for half a kilo of shallots in Lidl. Bought two bags - they last for ages. Also a couple of bags each of half a kilo of parsnips and a kilo of carrots for 15p. Who cares if they go soft? Doesn't matter once they're cooked.
Plus half a kilo of brussels sprouts for 15p ... BECAUSE IT'S CHRISTMAS! ![]() |

Lots of stuff in Aldi doesn't have a sell by date on anyway!
|
|
By:
doesn't mean a great deal anyway Jack as often the stuff in there has turned BEFORE the sell by date ...you just have to look at the produce to get the best freshness
|
|

Apart from seeing the smiley faces of the little ones getting prezzies at x'mas the veggie offers eg parsnips, carrots, cauliflower and broccoli are the next best thing. And, of course horse racing at Kempton and Leopardstown too.

The sell by on veg is irrelevant. As treetop says, make soup with it!!!
Freeze it. Meals on tap for the winter. Sorted. |
|
By:
often not possible to tell, coach.
so much stuff is refrigerated for so long before it gets to the shelf, that when it 'thaws out' it rots in no time.. |

where's Roger the Dodger ?
Lurking between Biffo and Dennis, and hiding a transistor radio under his coat in order to dodge having to sing. Here's a bigger version of the cover. It's from 1970, drawn by Dave Sutherland, and it's an absolute work of art: https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-AiLit2N8_yY/WFlYZqBYq0I/AAAAAAAAbE8/zCc5NR0-o_4TeWuk4SViv8NrxDeUewYhgCLcB/s1600/beano.jpg |

That's always a risk with leaves and greens. But there's little risk with root veg - they go limp and look sorry for themselves after two or three weeks in the bottom of the fridge, but so what?
