when going sea fishing this time of year
Report Dr Crippen December 16, 2019 3:05 PM GMT
If you walk much in cold weather you won't need telling to wear them.

Or if you work outside in the winter.
Report saddo December 16, 2019 3:08 PM GMT
It's ok for mo, he'll just put an extra pair of tights on
Report Dr Crippen December 16, 2019 3:17 PM GMT
They reckon jockeys wear tights under their silks to keep out the cold.

Well that their excuse for wearing them anyway.

XXL?

Suitable for Cycling, Skiing, Running, Rock Climbing...or sitting in front of a one bar electric fire.

Happy

IMO the only excuses for wearing them are.... outside, non-physical work and sitting down watching football or rugby in the midst of winter with near zero degrees.
Report Lady Faye Verrit December 17, 2019 1:49 PM GMT
Jack.....I'm pleased to say that I am far from XXL...
That was just specific to that link!

As far as only for the purposes that you state, you should come and live at mine, for a few days!

My place is not small....was built in 1812...two feet thick walls, and very large windows, which have "token" double glazing,
and the windows can't be changed

Add to that the arched ceilings, which rise to almost twelve feet, and that the principal rooms are north facing,
and then the punch line.....

We have no mains gas here, and the previous owner installed LPG, of which the cost is ridiculous!

I spend most of my time here, in my home office, which is comfortable, and easy to heat, but it's beneficial to wear a few layers!

Incidentally, the hottest it's ever been here in the summer, was nudging on nineteen degrees, and that only because we had three consecutive days of high twenties!

Calor are mercenary, chauvinistic bandits, hiding behind the name to which most people use, when referring to LPG!

We are five individual properties, connected to the bulk tank at "The Hall".

Despite their denial, the owners of "The Hall" must be, imo, on a very privileged deal!

Given the day that my boiler is in terminal decline, I will be installing an oil system,
which is the most preferable of all "delivered fuel", from personal experience!

I have a pair of silks but rarely wear them. If you work outdoors you generally don't need long johns unless you are a supervisor or safety office.

If you live in America and it goes to minus 25C then fair enough. I went shooting in Colorado once. I had a pair of Doc Martens on and the cold came up through them despite the air cushioned sole but they have good warm weather clothing over there and the rest of me was ok. The pistol got jammed at the end because of the cold.

So in conclusion I would only suggest wearing long johns if you are work shy or a cross dresser. Completely unnecessary in the UK climate unless of course there is a howling North Easterly. I suppose if you watch football they are acceptible as long as none of your mates know. It does get cold standing around.

The best piece of kit to keep you warm is a Siberian fox hat complete with tail and legs. It is eco friendly too although not for the unfortunate fox.
Report Charlie December 18, 2019 6:58 PM GMT
First couple of things I was told in Siberia was to throw away your English boots and buy some proper waterproof, fur lined ones, wear long johns, a hat, gloves, two pairs of socks and then dress for the cold.

Don't buy unless fitted with a trapdoor. Wink
