Nigel is the former leader of the UK Independence Party - Ukip - and is an MEP for South East England.

He took over the leadership in 2010 and presided over the party's first election win, when Douglas Carswell won the Clacton by-election.

He has stood as a candidate for parliament seven times, but is yet to win. His best performance was in the 2015 General Election, when he second in South Thanet, losing by 2,800 votes.

On the day of the election in 2010 - when he came third in Buckingham - he was involved in a plane crash and was pulled semi-conscious from the wreckage of the light aircraft. He made a full recovery.

He has been married twice. In 1988, he married Gráinne Hayes, by whom he has two children: Samuel and Thomas. The couple divorced in 1997 and two years later he married Kirsten Mehr, a German national, with whom he also has two children, Victoria and Isabelle.

Full name: Nigel Paul Farage
Born: 3rd April 1964

I hope you are right, Trilby, but I looked at today's schedule yesterday evening and it showed Nigel appearing between 10am and 12pm. I wonder if they didn't bother to update it since the GE campaign began?

It would be good if he returned as he has become an excellent broadcaster.

By not ever winning a seat in Westminster for himself or any party he represents?

Report lfc1971 January 5, 2020 9:15 AM GMT
It was all about the referendum , that bypasses parliament and puts the question directly in the hands of the British people . Farage was responsible in large part for that .  Farage understood this , Boris understood this , Farage got rid of Cameron and May and Corbyn and Swinson , they didn’t understand .

Was it because he has been a serial loser as a politician, failing to win a seat at Westminster seven times or failing to gain a seat for any party he represented over his lifetime?

Report politicspunter January 5, 2020 10:11 AM GMT
Brilliant Orator? I remember him being dismantled by Nicola Sturgeon (an incredibly successful politician and distinguished orator) in the live tv debates over the past few years. There is no disputing her exemplary record.

There you go...

https://d25d2506sfb94s.cloudfront.net/cumulus_uploads/document/58cqs0r3fx/Debate_for_website_final.pdf

Quite incredible really that a politician who only represents a party based in a relatively small part of the UK, clearly won a debate against politicians who represented all of it.

Little politics (aftertimer) pauper is good at pulling out these polls to prove whatever he chooses because they all differ, it's just a case of picking one to suit his argument.

I remember before the last two general elections, where he continually bored us with polls on here which either showed Labour ahead, close, or gaining ground.

He's a born loser who knows nothing about politics, and given the slightest chance he'll report you.
Report Dr Crippen January 5, 2020 11:04 AM GMT
I remember him being dismantled by Nicola Sturgeon

That's a clear and simple lie.

The poll didn't show anything of the kind, it simply showed from a sample of the public, who they thought had performed the best.
And from the defensive position Sturgeon was in, she would have had to do something pretty bad not to look okay there against the main parties.

Maybe I can help you? The yougov poll is a UK wide one conducted after the debate. Needless to say Nicola Sturgeon was at a massive disadvantage in the poll as she only represents the people of Scotland yet she still came clearly ahead of everyone. Don't you think that is amazing? Btw I am not Scottish but I appreciate fair play. If you do wish to watch the debate in full, there are plenty of viewable options on youtube.
Regarding your comment re football teams, Sturgeon has led her party to incredible representation at both Westminster and Holyrood whereas Farages total, in a massively larger geographical area, is zero.
I am sorry that your agenda may not allow you to appreciate these facts.

No hatred I assure you treetop. As we both know, the EU election turnout is always abysmal and is only used as a protest vote. Farage has a perfect record for gaining seats at Westminster-zero.
