Same every election day, reporting till 10.00pm kept to a minimum, other than leaders going to vote that's about it.

Yes, there are rules which apply to the broadcast media throughout the campaign. Eg if a specific constituency is mentioned, all the candidates then have to be named.

On the day of the election ie from 12 midnight until 10pm, they are pretty much prohibited from mentioning politics at all.

It is not like the election wasn't mentioned. It was third story. Fair play if this is  the norm. I can't say I recall it to be just.
