Debden Park High School: Boy, 12, dead and five hurt in hit-and-run crash
A 12-year-old boy has died and five others were hurt in a hit-and-run crash near a school.
The crash happened near Debden Park High School in Loughton, Essex, at about 15:30 GMT.
Essex Police said there was likely to be a "serious and prolonged investigation" and have started a murder investigation.
Two 15-year-old boys, one 13-year-old boy, a 16-year-old girl and a 53-year-old woman were among those injured.
It is thought all the teenagers were pupils at the school.
The force has appealed for help locating a silver Ford KA, which a spokesperson said was "likely to have damage to [its] front".

Det Ch Insp Rob Kirby, of the Kent and Essex serious crime directorate, called the crash "a truly shocking incident".
"I would like to thank the many members of the public who have called us with information and spoken to our officers, as well as those who provided crucial medical assistance at the scene," he added.
Police earlier said Willingale Road could not be accessed from junctions on either side of the school and the area remains cordoned off.

Uncorroborated reports that the car tried to run children down in nearby Roding, some 10 or so miles away, failed and then appeared again at Debden.

An Essex man has been given a community order after pleading guilty to attempting to steal money from a charity box in a North Walsham church. Terry Glover, of Newmans Lane, Loughton, pleaded guilty after seeing CCTV footage taken at St Nicholas Church on June 19 and July 29. This afternoon, Norwich Magistrates’ Court heard that Glover, 43, could be seen near five wall-mounted donation boxes using a metal object. Judith Piggin, prosecuting, said that on the second occasion he was spotted and the police were called. She said: “His car was found and searched and in that was a map with various towns and villages circled.” |

Hard to imagine your 12 year old kid goes to school and gets killed like that. I don't think I couldn't cope with that. So sad. What a pointless waste of young life.

Whether it's terrorism, mental health, drug/alcohol intoxication, etc, keep him locked-up and throw away the key for several decades; the sentence must reflect the crime and life taken - absolutely no excuse entertained.

i just can't think why ? Fishing, Coach? Stinking lousy bait mate. A truly horrendous and despicable act for which the offender deserves nothing less than being hung. For cases such as this - and London Bridge the other day - where there is no doubt whatsoever of the culprit's guilt, the death penalty is an obvious option. Why don't we have it here?
