Before he got famous with all his TV work he was Head Chef at the Castle Hotel in Taunton and had a great reputation there. Not sure if he did die after a fall (?) Jamie Oliver put that on his twitter page but soon deleted it. Only 59, was really shocked to hear that news, 59 is not young but too young to die.

A very fine chef, championed british farmers and great british cooking. Made his name at castle hotel at young age and served outstanding seasonal british produce, he retained the hotel's michelin star at the age of 26. Highly respected and much loved by the british public. A wonder bbc series "rhodes around Britain "...went on to feature in the ITV1 programme Saturday Cooks, as well as the UKTV Food show Local Food Hero.

Awarded the OBE in 2006

We be be greatly missed....

Just checked my phone and the wedding was in April 2009
Seems he left a Dublin venture which failed shortly before.

Surprised

So young, only 59 and suddenly too; he and Keith Floyd were the pioneers of tv chefs (RIP) Gary Rhodes.

Why the secrecy over the cause of death?

The police say he died of natural causes. So what's that a heart attack?

Celebrity chef Gary Rhodes tragically slipped and hit his head before he died, according to his close friend and one of the last people to see him alive.

British chef Vineet Bhatia, who was filming with Rhodes last week in Dubai, revealed that the Michelin starred chef was fit and healthy and his last words to him were 'life couldn't be better'.

The pair were pictured hugging in one of the last photographs of Rhodes taken four days before he died.

Mr Bhatia, who owns restaurants in London's Chelsea and Dubai, told Mail Online: 'I have been told by friends in Dubai that he slipped and banged his head and was then taken to hospital.

Unless Jamie made it up -why would he- that was always the likely cause.

^ Jamie Oliver put that on his social media page early yesterday and quickly deleted it. Maybe because at that stage it wasn't reported in the papers how he had died, but presumably Oliver had already heard he died from a fall.

If what Oliver posted was fact could it be liability insurance related? Whatever, hope he'd not suffered unnecessarily.

Gary Rhodes cause of death: Celebrity chef died of head injury, family reveal

Celebrity chef Gary Rhodes collapsed at home from a fatal head injury, his family has said.

Rhodes suffered a subdural hematoma, usually associated with a brain injury, and was rushed to hospital. It is unclear what caused the injury.

The family said in a statement: “In order to end painful speculation surrounding the sudden passing of our beloved Gary Rhodes OBE, the Rhodes family can confirm that after a successful day shooting with Rock Oyster Media for ITV here in Dubai, Gary returned home in a very happy mood for a peaceful evening with his wife Jennie.

"After dinner, Gary unfortunately collapsed in their residence and was rushed to hospital but unfortunately passed away due to subdural hematoma.

"At this time, there are no other details and the family would again request privacy around this very tragic loss and again, thank friends and family for their ongoing support at this time.”

When Gary Rhodes was a teenager he had a bad accident and a very serious head injury when he was hit by a van, and suffered a blood clot on the brain, then needed eight-hour brain surgery. He was warned by doctors about the risks of another head injury.
